Established in 2008, PangeaSeed is a grassroots movement uniting and educating individuals across the globe on the importance of protecting sharks and preserving the oceans. Pangea derives from ancient Greek meaning entire Earth. It’s the concept of the super continent surrounded by a single vast ocean that existed about 250 million years ago before the current continents were separated into their
now recognizable forms. Sharks balanced and controlled the oceans then and they continue to now…but for how much longer? PangeaSeed aims to unify and connect individuals around the world, opening a dialog to share ideas and develop a better global understanding of our connection with sharks and the oceans. Through education, awareness and action we are working together to solve this environmental crisis. No matter where you are in the world, your lifestyle and consumptions habits positively or negatively effect every animal (including humans), plant, and ecosystem on the planet. In short, like Pangea, we are all connected. Usually when someone thinks of the word “seed”, it conjures up an image of growth. Through the PangeaSeed network, we strive to grow together to develop a better global understanding of the need to protect sharks and preserve the oceans. The “seed” in PangeaSeed is also an acronym meaning Special Education Ecology and Design. Special Education is a major goal. Providing people with the necessary information and tools they need to work toward managing and solving the plight of sharks and the oceans. Also, by actively conducting research, we aim to better inform ourselves and the general public of the realities and status of the issue. Ecology promotion raises much need global awareness regarding our relationship with the natural world and the direct effect we have on marine biodiversity and the ocean ecosystem. Design, art, film and photography we believe can transcend cultures and borders. Raising awareness and uniting people across the globe regarding key issues such as the plight of sharks. Save the sharks, save the oceans, save ourselves. Through volunteer activism, research and the various mediums of art, music, film, and photography, PangeaSeed West Coast aims to create an open dialog with our local communities to develop an understanding of the need to preserve and protect sharks and the oceans.
