HHS JAG students put their trust, active listening, teamwork, and precision communication to the test with a hands-on workplace challenge!
The “Executor” (Big Boss) was blindfolded and had to navigate through and over obstacles using only verbal directions. The “Director” (Supervisor) was the only person allowed to speak, while the “Strategists” (Employees) provided support and helped ensure the Executor stayed safe and on course.
The lesson? In the workplace, your success is often tied to the quality of the information you receive—and the trust you have in the people providing it. Every role matters, and a team is only as strong as its communication.
Afterward, students were asked:
“If a pilot flies the plane, who has the more important job—the pilot or the air traffic controller guiding them through a storm?”
The answer sparked an important conversation: Success isn’t about one person doing the most important job. It’s about people trusting one another, communicating clearly, and doing their part.

An example of success and giving back to others and your communities. JAG students take note. Thank you for that example.

Yesterday, Tennessee — and the world — mourns the loss of one of our greatest treasures, Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s legacy reaches far beyond the songs she wrote and the stages she graced. She believed deeply in Tennessee, in education, and in the potential of every child. Through her generosity and lifelong commitment to literacy, she gave millions of children something powerful: a book of their own and the opportunity to dream bigger.

At JAG Tennessee, we share that belief.

We believe where a student starts should never determine where they can go. We believe education creates opportunity. And we believe that when someone believes in a young person, it can change the trajectory of a life.

Dolly never forgot where she came from. Instead, she used her success to reach back and create opportunities for the generations coming behind her. That is a legacy worthy of celebration — and one we will work to carry forward.

Thank you, Dolly, for believing in Tennessee’s young people and showing all of us what it means to invest in their future.

Your music will live on, but so will the dreams you helped make possible.

Improving Young Lives Forever.

It’s about more than a pep rally!!! One student feels seen. Another learns to lead. Both walk away better because of the connection. HHS JAG/Mustang Mentors put leadership into action by planning and helping to make the Huntingdon Middle School Football Homecoming Pep Rally a special experience—from high fives to the students while entering the gym to games, activities, and singing the Alma Mater together at the end.
For our Middle school students, having high school mentors present meant having someone a little older cheering them on, including them, encouraging them, and showing them that they are an important part of the school community. Those high fives, conversations, laughs, and shared moments may seem small, but they help build confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging to their school and community.
And for our JAG/Mustang Mentors, it is just as meaningful. It was leadership and an opportunity to make a difference in someone younger. They learned that leadership isn’t always standing in front of a crowd—it is showing up, getting involved, setting a positive example, and making someone else feel valued.
Mentoring works both ways and service to others is accomplished in a fun way. That’s the power of mentoring and that’s what the JAG/Mustang Mentors work together to do.

JAG SENIORS, HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS? If not, YOU SHOULD!
Scholarships take time and effort, but that effort can PAY OFF! Every scholarship you earn can help reduce the amount you have to pay for college—and potentially reduce the student loan debt you carry after graduation. FREE MONEY for college is worth working for! You may have to research but it can be beneficial.
And remember—scholarships are NOT just for straight-A students or star athletes!
There are scholarships for:
⭐ Leadership
🤝 Community Service
💡 Entrepreneurship
🔬 STEM
🩺 Healthcare
💰 Financial Need
🎓 First-Generation College Students
✍️ Essays
🎥 Videos
🏆 Talents, Skills & Interests
…and hundreds of other categories!
START EARLY! Juniors, you don’t have to wait until senior year to begin looking. 👀
Students can strengthen their scholarship opportunities by:
✅ Building a strong resume
✅ Getting involved in school and community activities
✅ Volunteering
✅ Working to improve their GPA
✅ Developing leadership skills
✅ Keeping track of accomplishments and awards
✅ Applying for scholarships CONSISTENTLY
The more scholarships you apply for, the more opportunities you give yourself to earn money for your education.
Don’t count yourself out before you even apply!
A few hours spent completing applications now could mean THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS saved later. MS Tracy Connell will have local scholarships available in the spring semester to apply for. It is work to fill them out but if you do not apply, for sure you will not receive one.
START EARLY. STAY ORGANIZED. KEEP APPLYING. PUT IN THE EFFORT.

Values are the core beliefs, principles, or standards that guide a persons judgement about what is important, right, and desirable in life. That’s exactly what our JAG I students are currently working on! Currently pictured, our students have been split into groups and given a scenario to work through, identifying how they would handle a particular situation and what values may be competing against one another. After completing, the students will have to present their findings to the class!

Our Senior JAG students had a great time putting their teamwork and communication skills into action with the Team Writer Activity!
Each group worked together to decide on a picture they wanted to create, but there was a catch—no one person controlled the marker! Each team member could only hold a string attached to it, which meant completing their drawing required everyone to work together.
Each team also had a leader who helped guide and direct the group while team members communicated, listened, problem-solved, and worked together to accomplish their goal.
This activity was a fun reminder that successful teamwork takes more than everyone simply doing their part. It takes communication, trust, patience, cooperation, leadership, and a willingness to work toward a common goal.
Our Senior JAG students did exactly that—and had plenty of fun, too! Great job all of you.
