Huge thank you to Dr. Lyndi King, our JAGTN Chief Operating Officer for coming and speaking to Coach Dickens JAG Classes today. She shared her experiences on life and how important being resilient is to living a successful life. The students loved her sharing her story, the cup game, and the JAG Swag she brought. She also discussed our Career Development Conference Competitions and what they entail. What an awesome day. Thank you Dr. King for coming today!

JAG students had an informative and fun visit from Craig Lunn from TCAT Henry/Carroll, in Paris, TN and McKenzie, TN.

Craig shared with the students the wide variety of technical degrees and certifications TCAT offers, along with the step-by-step process for applying. More importantly, he broke down the essential funding opportunities—including scholarships and grants—that make attending TCAT affordable and accessible!

Here are the key takeaways from his presentation that was discussed:

Financial Aid & Scholarships: Ways to pay for school and graduate debt-free.

HHS JAG students from freshmen to seniors recently had the honor of hosting TN State Representative, Brock Martin, who shared invaluable wisdom on leadership, service, and creating a game plan for long-term success.

Here are a few key takeaways Representative Martin shared with our future leaders:

Education First & Early Planning: Success starts early. Take advantage of opportunities like dual credit courses in high school to build a strong foundation for your future.
Serve Beyond Your Profession: Inspired by former Mayor Dale Kelley, Representative Martin reminded us to always look for ways to serve our communities. Be more than just your career—the more you invest in others, the more you get in return.
Anyone Can Lead: We need more leaders, and leadership isn’t about standing at the front—you can be at the back of the pack and still lead by lifting others up.
Step Out of Your Comfort Zone: True growth often requires taking risks and stepping into the unknown, just as Representative Martin did when running for State Representative.
Impact Daily: A powerful daily reminder Representative Martin shares with his son: “What are you going to do today? I am going to significantly impact others.”
Return and Reinvest: Connections and relationships truly matter. Build a strong support network, use your experiences to grow, and always look for opportunities to bring your talents back home to serve your local community.

Huntingdon will host the very own competition this Saturday, October 3. This is an incredible lineup. We cannot wait to see all these wonderful groups.

Several Huntingdon High School seniors including Senior JAG Students had an opportunity to hear from UT System President Randy Boyd as part of his annual Find Your Future high school tour. Each year, President Boyd travels across Tennessee to encourage students to think boldly about their futures and explore the opportunities available through UT at their five campuses—Chattanooga, Health Sciences, Knoxville, Martin, and Southern.
President Boyd was joined by UT Martin Chancellor Yancy Freeman and a recent UT Martin graduate, Ashlyn Drewry, who is now the Manager of Marketing and Public Relations at Discovery Park of America.
The group shared how UT helps students pursue their goals through affordable pathways to a degree, strong career outcomes, and a college experience designed to prepare them for their next steps. Students received information about the UT system and a few answered questions and received a UT shirt

Helping Ms. Candice Wilson and Ms. Brooke Cooper navigate a field trip full of energetic 4-year-olds is no small task, but our JAG mentors students, Allie Ruffell, Everly Johnson, Katelyn Brewer, and Taylor Canovan jumped right in and helped to make the day run smoothly having an absolute blast doing it! Our JAG / Mustang Mentors were leaders during a special field trip with the Pre-K classes at Huntingdon Primary School to the Carroll County Library! It was a fun-filled day of storytime, exploration, and learning.

Being a mentor in a Pre-K classroom is all about being a positive role model, lending a helping hand, and encouraging our youngest Mustangs as they take their first steps in school. From holding little hands while walking into the library to helping them find exciting books and stay engaged during activities, our mentors showed incredible patience, heart, and enthusiasm.

We are so proud of these high school leaders for pouring into our future generation. We have several high school leaders helping our middle and primary school students three days a week in STEM class, art class, the cafeterias, the gyms, and in many classrooms. Thank you JAG/Mustang Mentors who give of their time to mentor students. Thank you to the Carroll County Library for allowing our HPS teachers to visit and to our HPS teachers for letting our mentors be part of such a fun day!

Career paths are rarely linear—and that’s where the growth happens.
Our Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) students were thrilled to host Kate Carter-Matlock, an alumnus of Huntingdon High School and the owner of Cupkate’s Bakery for an incredible talk about how “Building a career isn’t always a straight line, and you don’t have to pick one path forever.” She shared her road from high school to owning her own business and stated it was through
several different careers and baking was always in the picture with the other careers she had.
Kate told the students about what it takes to start a business and the demand it takes on you.
When she chose to take the leap into owning her own bakery, it was fueled by key lessons that apply to any career shift:
1. Demand existed.
2. I enjoyed creating something of my own.
3. I saw opportunities for growth.
4. I enjoy serving our community.
5. Each step gave me evidence that the business could work.
6. I was willing to see where the opportunity went—and had support.
Her key takeaways for our students: Skills travel with you—a career shift doesn’t erase your past experience. You don’t have to pick one job forever. Instead of asking “What do I want to be?”, Kate challenged our students to ask: “What kind of life do I want after work?”
— then make a plan to explore, adapt, and build it.
Thank you, Kate, for inspiring our students to ask better questions and build paths that fit their goals! It might not have been the plan but it is a career and it fits. She stressed with multiple careers you can always fall back on previous careers if needed. Most importantly, the students totally enjoyed having her visit and loved the chocolate chip cookies that she brought to the class…they tasted so good! Thank you so much!
