Hi all!
We want to update you on a project we had in Alexandria. These trees were funded through a grant to bring environmental education to both adults and children on the importance on riparian buffers.
We had an amazing group of volunteers and a collaborative effort across agencies to plant over 50 trees. These trees were species that were meant to bring interaction and curiosity about our waterways (edible fruits, flowering, great for wildlife, etc).
Now for the update, we unfortunately were told they could no longer stay in the park. Our staff, Alexandria Borough, and Blair County Conservation District worked in the rain this past Wednesday to safely remove the trees. Additionally, a huge thank you to Sam and Jordan from Ecotopian Earth Care and Restoration Land Care for being amazing conservation partners with us on this, and making sure the trees are potted safely in the mean time before they are planted!
We want to celebrate though that these trees have found a new place to live! They will still be able to be accessed within Alexandria and will be found at Melvin Lane Park.
This was no choice of our own and no choice of any of our conservation partners either. We were informed that if all trees were not removed by Wednesday they were going to be discarded.
Thank you for reading, and we want to celebrate that these trees are safe and will be finding a new home within the borough!
