🌿 TWO LAKES. ONE COMMUNITY. LET’S GET TO WORK! 🌿

We have two lakes in Huntington Green. Around here, we simply call them the Big Lake and the Little Lake. 😊 And on Saturday, September 12, we’re coming together to show BOTH of them some love!

🧤 Pull on your work gloves, grab your family, friends, coworkers, church group, or neighbors, and join us for Caterpillar Ministries’ Lake Cleanup Day!

We’ll be:
🌳 Removing trees and debris
🌿 Clearing invasive kudzu
💧 Cleaning up the lake banks
🗑️ Picking up trash
💚 And working together to care for our community!

⏰ 8:00 AM–1:00 PM
Come for an hour, a few hours, or the whole day!

There is a job for lots of different hands—and EVERY hand makes a difference!

This is what community looks like: neighbors, volunteers, businesses, churches, community groups, the Town of Huntersville, and the Huntersville Environmental Sustainability Committee all working side by side.

🚐 Transportation affects just about everything — getting to work, school, appointments, the grocery store, and the people and places that matter to us. And right now, North Mecklenburg has an opportunity to help shape the future of transportation.

The North Mecklenburg Transportation Justice Alliance was recently formed, bringing together representatives from Caterpillar Ministries, Ada Jenkins Center, Smithville Community Coalition, and Pottstown Heritage Group with one important goal: making sure the voices of our North Mecklenburg residents are heard. ❤️

The Alliance is working to strengthen transportation efforts across our communities — including expanding microtransit, improving access to reliable transportation, and making sure residents have a voice as plans move forward for the future Red Line commuter rail.

👉 And this is where YOU come in!

We are asking our Huntington Green neighbors — and others throughout North Mecklenburg — to take just a few minutes to complete the Microtransit Survey.

Your experience matters.
Your challenges matter.
Your ideas matter.
Your voice belongs at the table.

📱 Simply scan the QR code on the flyer to complete the survey in English or Spanish.
Or follow these links:

Spanish - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdIOSgvuVSL5YwC41JbGqeZUIudkP4I0lVpOFAsLpvwAZZpyQ/viewform

🎉 And there’s a little extra fun: Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a gift card drawing, with one winner chosen this Friday!

Please take the survey and then share this post with your neighbors, friends, churches, schools, and community groups. The more voices we hear from, the better we can advocate for transportation options that truly work for the people who live here.

Help shape the future of transportation in North Mecklenburg! 🚐🚆❤️

🌽 CORN, CORN & MORE CORN! 🌽

One of our FAVORITE deliveries showed up last week — and when we say fresh, we mean FRESH! 😋🌽

Our wonderful friend Maria from Society of St. Andrew brought us more than 700 pounds of beautiful, just-picked corn!

And then our neighbors got to work! 💪

🌽 700+ pounds of corn
🌽 850 ears bagged
🌽 85 bags with 10 ears each
🌽 65 families taking home some summer deliciousness!

Thank you, Maria! Thank you, Society of St. Andrew! We are so grateful for the way you continue to share the harvest with our Huntington Green families.

And to our amazing neighbors who jumped right in to help — you are the BEST!

Now the important question…
Butter? Salt? Chili & lime? 🌽😋 How are YOU eating yours?

🏡 Why do we call it Dad’s House?

We get asked that question a lot.

Dad’s House is our main office at Caterpillar Ministries, but we’ve never wanted it to feel much like an office.

There’s a little area for kids to play, coffee and snacks for our families, rooms for private conversations, and space for workshops, meetings, classes, and plenty of everyday drop-ins.

But more than anything, we want Dad’s House to be a place where our neighbors feel comfortable walking through the door.

A place to sit for a while. To ask a question. To share what’s going on. To laugh. To cry. To celebrate something good. Or sometimes, to know someone is there to listen.

The name Dad’s House came from our Heavenly Father and the way He loves us—with grace, mercy, and without judgment. We know we won’t always get that perfectly right, but that is what we hope to reflect in this little house in Huntington Green.

Some days it’s quiet. Other days, kids are running around, people are coming in and out, coffee is brewing, and conversations are happening everywhere. And we love it that way.

Because Dad’s House belongs in the middle of the community we love.

Our hope is pretty simple: when you walk through these doors, you know you are welcome, you matter, and there is a place for you here. 💛🦋

☀️💦 Boats, BINGO & Popsicles…oh my! ⛵️🪂

Our friends from Davidson College Presbyterian Church took over Dad’s House last Monday, and they came ready for some serious summer FUN!

There were water games 💦, parachute games 🪂, crafts 🎨, and a very competitive game of summer BINGO. Let’s say…these kids were READY to yell BINGO! 😂

Then our little boat builders got creative, made their own boats, and “set sail” across the mini pool. ⛵️🌊 Were they seaworthy? Maybe. 😂 Did everyone have fun? ABSOLUTELY!

And because no summer celebration is complete without something cold and sweet, Davidson College Presbyterian Church brought popsicles for the perfect cool-down. ☀️🧊

What a way to squeeze every last drop of fun out of summer! 💦

We’re so grateful for our DCPC friends who keep showing up for our Caterpillar kids with big smiles, creative ideas, and a willingness to jump right into the fun.

Thanks, DCPC, for helping us sail into the end of summer with a SPLASH! ⛵️💦💚

🚚 One VBS Project. Thousands of Little Bottoms Covered. 👶💙

A few weeks ago, the children at Vacation Bible School at Independence Hill Baptist Church took on a special mission—to help babies and toddlers in the Huntington Green community.

The result? A truckload of diapers and baby wipes! ❤️

The incredible donation was delivered by the IHBC staff team, including Pastor Mathew, who had been at Independence Hill for just one week when VBS took place. We loved welcoming him to Caterpillar Ministries, sharing the story of Huntington Green, and showing how Independence Hill has faithfully invested in this community for nearly two decades.

Here are a few diaper facts that might surprise you:

👶 A baby typically uses 2,500-3,000 diapers during the first year of life.

🧸 Most children use 6,000-8,000 diapers before they're potty trained.

💙 Diapers cannot be purchased with SNAP (food stamp) benefits, making them one of the biggest monthly expenses for many young families.

That's why diapers—especially Sizes 5, 6, and 7—and baby wipes remain one of Caterpillar Ministries' greatest ongoing needs.

To our friends at Independence Hill Baptist Church—thank you. Since 2007, you have faithfully prayed, served, volunteered, donated, and loved the Huntington Green community. Your partnership has touched thousands of lives, and this diaper drive is just one more example of your generosity in action.

And to the amazing VBS kids...thank you for proving that you're never too young to make a big difference.

Welcome, Pastor Mathew! We are grateful you're here and look forward to serving our community together for many years to come.

💙 Every diaper helps. Every gift matters. Every child is worth it.

🚶‍♂️🌀 Reality? Optional. 🤯

Our middle schoolers took on the Charlotte Museum of Illusions, and let's just say... nothing was quite what it seemed! 😆

From mind-bending optical illusions to the famous "spinning tunnel" that had everyone questioning their balance (and maybe even gravity! 🌪️😂), it was an afternoon full of laughter, curiosity, and unforgettable moments.

Learning doesn't always happen at a desk. Sometimes it happens upside down, inside an illusion, and with friends who make every adventure even more fun! 💙

🐔 And of course... Chick-fil-A for the win afterward! Waffle fries + great friends = the perfect ending to an awesome day! ❤️🍟

🧱 Lots of LEGOs + STEAMkits = Loads of Fun! 🚀

At Camp Caterpillar, Thursdays are made for adventures! ☀️

Our K–5th graders recently put their creativity into overdrive as they designed incredible LEGO masterpieces and built exciting arcade-inspired creations using STEAMkits. There were towers, games, inventions, teamwork, problem-solving, and plenty of smiles along the way!

Experiences like these help children discover that learning isn't just something you do—it's something you get to build, create, and imagine.

A huge thank you to Lake Forest Church for opening your doors and sharing your space with us, Michael and Gina for generously loaning us the LEGOs, and Digi-Bridge for donating the STEAMkits. Because of your kindness, our campers had an unforgettable day filled with creativity, laughter, and hands-on learning.

One day of building... countless memories... and maybe a few future engineers, architects, and inventors in the making. 💙💛

Fueled by Snacks. Fueled by Love. ❤️🦋

At Caterpillar Ministries, it's often the little things that make the biggest difference.

Throughout the year, our friends at Assurance United Methodist Church keep our preschool and after-school tutoring programs stocked with healthy snacks that help fuel growing minds and bodies. Several weeks ago, our dear friend Carol delivered another truckload of snacks for our summer camps—but she brought something even sweeter than the treats.

Carol's visits to Dad's House are filled with smiles, hugs, encouragement, and genuine love. While the snacks keep our campers energized, her faithful presence reminds our neighbors that they are seen, valued, and deeply cared for.

And if you've never had Carol's homemade mac and cheese, baked spaghetti, and garlic toast... you're missing out! 😊 She faithfully keeps our volunteers, campers, and neighbors well-fed during soccer camp and our community dinners too. She doesn't just nourish hungry stomachs—she nourishes hearts.

Thank you, Assurance UMC and Carol, for faithfully walking alongside our Huntington Green family. Every snack shared, every meal prepared, every hug given, and every act of kindness is a beautiful reminder of God's love in action.

Our campers are fueled by snacks. Our community is fueled by love. And we are incredibly grateful. 💚
