It’s been a hard day. One of our very first rescues, Abel Benjamin, who got adopted quickly, but had to be returned to us because he bit someone, has been sick for the last couple of weeks. We took him to our vet, who agreed with our assessment, he thought he had a UTI, so he put him on an antibiotic. He finished the antibiotic, but his symptoms persisted. So, he was put on another antibiotic. Still, no results.
We took him back to our vet today, and after x-rays and an ultrasound, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer and probable prostate cancer. He was only seven years old—We were devastated.
After discussing options for treatment, we,and the vet, felt euthanasia was the best option. He was in pain that wasn’t going to get better, and, likely would worsen quickly, possibly resulting in a total blockage of his urethra. It was the most loving, yet difficult, thing we could do.
Death is so hard, even when you know in your head it’s best for your precious friend, you don’t want to let go. You know how much you’re going to feel the loss in heart and in your life.
Abel Benjamin Wildman, you were a huge blessing to our family and you will be missed more than anyone knows. Yes, you came in as part of our rescue, but you became an irreplaceable part of our family.
May you rest in peace my boy!!!
Abel Benjamin Wildman
