Today we recognize the 80th anniversary of D-Day. 80 years ago, our country was united in its effort to defeat fascism overseas to prevent it from spreading to America. Individuals across the political spectrum went to the front lines, worked in factories, and sacrificed in ways to preserve democracy.

Unfortunately, 8 decades later, fascism again is threatening our democracy. The threat is real, on our own shores, and cannot be taken lightly. It will take a uniting of Democrats in the vein of John F. Kennedy and Barrack Obama and Republicans in the vein of Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan to defeat fascism. This time we are called not to fight a war but to make our voice heard through the democratic process.

We at Let’s Be Purple are asking you to choose America’s democracy over all else. Choose America’s democracy over your own party. Choose America’s democracy over your wallet. Choose to spend your time preserving America’s democracy. Compared to those who fought on D-Day, the sacrifices required today seem small –but are no less important.

After insisting on border security as part of any package of aid to Ukraine and negotiating a bill with the most significant changes in U.S. immigration and border security in decades, congressional Republicans worked to defeat the bill this week.

What is purple vs yellow?
America needs those with traditional Republican ("red") values, those with traditional Democratic ("blue") values (and those with a mix of both) to work together - to be purple - to preserve our democracy and to find win-win solutions. Those who work against those values and against our democracy are the opposite of purple, and the opposite of purple on a traditional color wheel is yellow.

German citizens are showing they care about their democracy. Both this weekend and last weekend, hundreds of thousands of people in Germany have been demonstrating against right-wing extremism in Germany.
