CBNB Member Spotlight: A Family Connection

For Greg Pierce and Lauren Powderly (Sparks Marketing Communications), CBNB is more than a place to build professional relationships. It’s a community they’ve grown with, both individually and together.

Greg is a founding board member of CBNB. What he values most are the relationships he’s built along the way: “I have developed strong friendships as well as a network of professionals whom I trust and respect.” He also appreciates the opportunity CBNB provides to share and deepen his faith outside of church.

Lauren joined CBNB as she began navigating life after college. Over the years, the network has connected her with friends, mentors, and clients, while also playing a meaningful role in bringing her back to the Church. Today, those connections are woven into her family life, too. Two special members of the CBNB community, Fr. Steven Roth and Archbishop William E. Lori officiated her wedding, and Fr. Roth baptized her son.

As a father and daughter, Greg and Lauren share a belief in the importance of getting to know people beyond the business at hand. Greg admires the way Lauren as a coach connects with her track athletes and their families, while Lauren credits her dad with teaching her that confidence comes from introducing yourself and genuinely getting to know the people around you. As Lauren puts it, “The relationships you build with the people you're networking with is more important than the transaction you're looking to make.”

Their advice to anyone considering CBNB? There’s a place for everyone, whether you want to learn from speakers, support the network through sponsorship, or meet new people.

And Greg has one additional suggestion: “Invite your kids!”

Sometimes, the experiences that change our lives most are the ones we never expected.

Amy Kimmel Fuggi knows this firsthand. A Catholic Alcohol Freedom Coach and Certified This Naked Mind Coach, she experienced her own journey of transformation through alcohol freedom, which led to a deeper faith, renewed hope, and a desire to help others find freedom from habits that hold them back.

A lifelong Baltimore resident and parishioner at Church of the Nativity, Amy has also spent eight years co-leading Walking With Purpose Catholic Bible study. Her faith is at the center of her life and the work she does with others.

At our October meeting, Amy will share how being present and noticing someone can lead to an invitation that changes lives, and how our Catholic faith can lead us on journeys we never could have imagined.

Thank you to Kelly Surgent Lippenholz for joining the Catholic Business Network of Baltimore as our guest speaker at our September 25 meeting!

Kelly had our group up and out of our seats as we explored our own leadership styles, how we interact with others, and where we have opportunities to grow. She shared practical insights on how greater self-awareness and stronger relationships can lead to better outcomes both personally and professionally.

Kelly also shared openly about her own faith journey and how it continues to evolve, with love remaining at the center of that journey.

Thank you, Kelly, for an engaging, honest, and thought-provoking presentation that gave us plenty to reflect on and put into practice.

You never know where a CBNB connection might lead.

Debra Saraullo and Joe Shagena had known each other through CBNB for years, but neither expected their professional paths to eventually cross in such a meaningful way.

A few years ago, during a slower period in his mortgage career, Joe began looking for something productive and fulfilling to do. He found an opportunity to work with seniors and began providing in-home care.

When Deb learned what Joe was doing, she wasn't surprised. She already knew him as a kind person who genuinely enjoyed connecting with people. As the owner of Inhome Advantage she knew he would be a natural fit.

Her only regret? She wished she had hired him first!

Today, Joe balances his work at Destiny Mortgage Group with providing companion care through Inhome Advantage. He especially values giving family caregivers a much-needed break while providing companionship and meaningful experiences for his clients.

Joe says Deb is deeply engaged with her caregivers and works to match them with clients where they can make the greatest difference. He plans to continue with Inhome Advantage even after he eventually steps away from his mortgage career.

Joe finds real purpose in the work: “It is worthwhile, fulfilling and rewarding to provide someone with just a few hours of cheer and engagement.”

For Deb, the relationships she has built through CBNB have become an important part of her experience: “I feel a special kinship with other members knowing that we share the same beliefs and ultimate life goals.”

Their story is a great reminder that professional relationships can lead to opportunities you never expected.

Tomorrow morning, CBNB welcomes Kelly Surgent Lippenholz for a conversation about faith, leadership, and the journey in between.

In "From the Pulpit to the Podium: A Crisis of Faith, and What It Taught Me About Leading", Kelly will share her personal journey after walking away from a career in ministry and the leadership lessons she gained along the way.

As a Maxwell Certified Trainer, Speaker and Coach and Certified DISC Behavior Analysis Consultant, Kelly brings a unique perspective to leadership, relationships, communication, and navigating difficult situations.
