Helping Kids Avoid The Rough
The Foundation was founded in 1967 when it was feared that Baltimore would lose the LPGA golf tournament. A group of golfers was formed to promote and run the tournament in order to keep it as a civic event. There was one stipulation - all of the proceeds would go to charity. Accordingly, they selected the name "Golfers' Charitable Association" as the group's title.
In 1987, The Foundation sponsored the first annual "Scramble for Kids" golf tournament. The Mid-Atlantic golf professionals have participated in this tournament. The Board of Directors and GCF volunteers have supported this annual fund raiser since its inception. The mission to fund and support causes related to children’s charities remains anchored in intention and purpose.
In 2017, The Foundation celebrated a distinguished record of 50 years fund raising in support of children's health, athletic and outreach programs. To honor this hallmark anniversary, the organization was renamed The Golfers’ Charitable Foundation, debuted a new logo, marketing materials and website to enhance the awareness of the organization’s commitment to children’s charities.
This year, the 32nd Golfers’ Charitable Foundation Annual Scramble for Kids Golf Tournament will be held at the esteemed Baltimore Country Club – Five Farms, East Course on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
