Southeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership, Inc. (SENCA) is a private non-profit 501 (c)(3) corp

SENCA offers a wide range of services that are aimed at the reduction of poverty, the revitalization of low-income communities and the empowerment of low-income individuals and families to become self-sufficient. The services and activities offered have a measurable impact on causes of poverty in the communities that are served. SENCA works with participants to increase skills, knowledge and motivation in the ongoing mission to secure opportunities needed for them to become self-sufficient. Services are available in Cass, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, and Richardson counties.

Today is National Weatherization Day! Gin Christiansen, SENCA's Weatherization Director, has attended local County Commissioner meetings having them declare October 30th as Weatherization Day. She will wrap up with Cass County next week. The goal of the Weatherization Program is to save energy, reducing heating and cooling cost, and to ensure the health and safety of the households served. Attention Falls City!

Falls City Head Start spent the last two weeks learning all about apples. Preschoolers have been busy learning and exploring apples through fun hands-on activities. Students learned about the parts of an apple, made predictions about whether apples sink or float, created apple art, and explored their creativity with different materials. Students put a healthy twist on their learning by making their very own healthy apple pie snack! Staff love watching our little learners explore, create, ask questions, and learn through play!

Governor Pillen Declares October as National Energy Awareness Month and October 30th as National Weatherization Day! SENCA's Weatherization Program has been helping families save on their energy bills for over 50 years. The goals of the Weatherization Program are to save energy, to reduce heating and cooling costs and to ensure the health and safety of the households served. The average home experiences an average of 18.7% reduction in heating costs. Additional savings are achieved in cooling costs. This conservation of energy reduces Nebraska's dependence on imported energy and is a major contribution to the self-sufficiency of low-income families allowing them to stretch their available income. SENCA Weatherization Attends Ralston Community Resource Fair: Gin Christiansen represented SENCA's Weatherization program Tuesday at the Ralston Community Resource Fair. The fair was hosted by Omaha Public Power District and Metropolitan Utilities District. This was a chance for Sarpy and Douglas county residents to connect with advocacy groups, non-profits, and service providers who offer programs to help with utility assistance and other available resources. The Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment, who funds SENCA's program, also attended to demonstrate the House of Pressure. The prop is used to visually demonstrate home performance testing using pressure diagnostics. Hundreds of people attended the event.
