What do you do if you find a fawn in the wild? Let Griff Griffith break it down for you in this edu-taining way.
Every spring and summer, people come across fawns curled up alone in the grass or forest and worry they've been abandoned. In most cases, they haven't. Mother deer often leave their fawns hidden for hours at a time while they feed nearby. The fawn's spotted coat helps it blend into its surroundings, and staying still helps keep it safe from predators. If the fawn looks healthy and isn't in immediate danger, the best thing you can do is leave it alone and keep pets and people away from the area.
If a fawn is lying next to a dead deer, wandering and crying constantly, appears injured, or has obvious signs of distress, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for guidance. Avoid touching or moving the animal unless it is in immediate danger, such as being in a roadway. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do for wildlife is simply give it space. By letting nature take its course, we give fawns the best chance to reunite with their mothers and grow up wild. Also, you should download the free Animal Help Now app. It will help you locate the nearest wildlife rescuer to you. #
