What do you do if you find a fawn in the wild? Let Griff Griffith break it down for you in this edu-taining way.

Every spring and summer, people come across fawns curled up alone in the grass or forest and worry they've been abandoned. In most cases, they haven't. Mother deer often leave their fawns hidden for hours at a time while they feed nearby. The fawn's spotted coat helps it blend into its surroundings, and staying still helps keep it safe from predators. If the fawn looks healthy and isn't in immediate danger, the best thing you can do is leave it alone and keep pets and people away from the area.

If a fawn is lying next to a dead deer, wandering and crying constantly, appears injured, or has obvious signs of distress, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for guidance. Avoid touching or moving the animal unless it is in immediate danger, such as being in a roadway. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do for wildlife is simply give it space. By letting nature take its course, we give fawns the best chance to reunite with their mothers and grow up wild. Also, you should download the free Animal Help Now app. It will help you locate the nearest wildlife rescuer to you. #

Have you ever wondered why an old growth redwood forest is so quiet?! There's a very good reason that you probably never thought of before. Griff Griffith explains

One of my favorite combos is the Redwood forest with pizza! If you visit Redwood National and State Parks (NPS) stop in Orick and get some delicious pizza at the Mojo Pizza truck. The pizza gets to you fast!

Save nature by having fun. Let me explain

Ever wonder who’s singing outside your window or calling from the trees on your morning walk? The Merlin Bird Id app can help you discover the birds all around you in seconds. Using sound recordings, photos, or simple descriptions, Merlin helps identify bird species and turns everyday moments into opportunities for curiosity and connection. Suddenly, that mysterious whistle in the neighborhood isn’t just background noise. It’s a living part of your local ecosystem with its own migration story, habitat needs, and role in nature.

Paying attention to birds is one of the easiest ways to reconnect with the natural world. Birds are everywhere, from city parking lots to deep forests, and learning their songs and behaviors can completely change how you experience a place. The more you notice, the more alive the world feels. Apps like Merlin don’t just identify birds. They help train your ears and eyes to slow down, observe, and appreciate the incredible biodiversity that surrounds us every day.

Have you ever thought about what a bird is trying to communicate by singing in the Spring?
Spring is the breeding season for many songbirds, and singing helps them survive and reproduce. Male birds sing to attract mates and to warn other birds to stay out of their territory. As the days get longer and temperatures warm up, birds’ hormones change and trigger more singing behavior. Spring also brings more insects, flowers, and new plant growth, which means there is more food available to raise chicks. That’s why forests and neighborhoods suddenly become so loud with bird songs in spring. It’s nature’s version of birds announcing, “I’m here, this is my space, and I’m ready to start a family.”

Pops was an old farmer who claimed to hate tree-huggers and environmentalists. He was suspected of sabotaging our restoration efforts along the Sacramento River back in 1993. My interactions with him changed my life. In this episode of the Nature's Archive Podcast, I talk publicly about it for the first time.

In a world overwhelmed by ecological despair, Griff Griffith’s transformation from angry activist to nuanced communicator sheds light on the importance of connecting with diverse perspectives…
