Lady Houston members celebrated America 250! by visiting the full-sized replica of Independence Hall at Houston Christian University. We were delighted to hear stories about people who aided in the Revolutionary cause from our guide, Dr. Christopher Hammons. This is truly a wonderful space for students to immerse themselves in our nation’s history.

As part of the Texas State Regent's Project focused on educating fourth-grade students about Texas history by providing copies of "Texas: Before the Lone Star" to elementary school libraries in this great State, the Lady Houston Chapter in Kingwood worked with the James Tull Chapter in Humble to donate books to Humble ISD. Together, the Chapters will donate 30 copies of the book, one for each of the elementary school libraries in the district. Pictured are Lady Houston Chapter's historian, Sharon Mize, with Humble ISD's senior director of personalized student success, along with the copies of the book donated by the Lady Houston Chapter.

Lady Houston Chapter takes pride in promoting Education, Historic Preservation, and Patriotism in our community.

We are so proud to honor this extraordinary woman as a DAR American Woman in History! She was a nurse in the Army during the Vietnam War. Then, she became pregnant and was advised that women with children could not serve in the active duty military. She refused to resign and was “released” from her position. She became determined to do something to change the law. She wrote letters to Senators and talked to them about why being pregnant is not a reason somebody should be denied a job. It worked, and the law changed. She eventually re-joined the service as a Captain and retired 16 years later as a Lt. Colonel. We are blessed that she is a member of the Lady Houston Chapter!
