It’s National Volunteer Week and we’d like to salute the volunteers that help the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf fulfill its mission of providing food to families and individuals in need while maintaining their dignity.

In the past year alone, 168 volunteers have given more than 4,600 hours of their time to serving the needs of others. From transporting, sorting, and packaging more than 150,000 pounds of food, to fundraising, promotion and serving families in need, we could not do it without you! Thank you for all that you do!

We are saddened to learn of the untimely passing of our friend and Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf volunteer, Randy Kotval. Over the past 5 years, Randy served his neighbors in need in a variety of ways including transporting food donations from area grocery stores, working various shifts at the food shelf, participating in community fundraising events, and lending a helping hand whenever it was needed. We will miss his big smile and his huge heart for giving.

As we close out 2025 and welcome 2026, we’d like to thank the citizens of the Hugo-Centerville area and our community business partners, organizations, volunteers, and staff that have donated their time, talents, and treasures to serving our neighbors in need. Your generosity has enabled us to distribute more than 100,000 pounds of food to over 1,000 families in need during 2025. Thank you!

Christmas is here and thanks to your generosity, the support of our community business partners, and of course, some jolly elves, more than 100 Hugo area families are enjoying the gift of a delicious and festive holiday meal. Santa also came early to hand out hundreds of toys and other gifts. Special thanks to the Hugo Fire Department, Centennial Fire District, Hugo MN Lions, Centerville Lions, Fenway Place Townhomes, Wilson Tool, Hugo City Hall, and Festival Foods. Thank you for making this Christmas merry for those in need!

Thank you to the Hugo MN Lions club for making the holiday season merrier for our neighbors in need!

The Lions are feeling so full after this weekend!

We had the privilege of helping to pass out full holiday meals to families in need with the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf Saturday morning.
