The high cost of food continues to squeeze everyone in our community and stretching the food dollar is more important than ever. The good news is that every dollar you donate to the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf can provide up to THREE MEALS for our neighbors in need. That’s because we use your donation to purchase food through Second Harvest Heartland – one of the nation’s largest food banks. A gift of $30 will help feed a child for a month and a gift of $150 will help feed a family of four.

During July, every donation that you make to the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf will be matched dollar for dollar up to $2,000 thanks to a generous local donor. In addition, any donation received during July is eligible to receive a matching grant from Open Your Heart, a Minnesota based nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger in our community. It’s National Volunteer Week and we’d like to salute the volunteers that help the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf fulfill its mission of providing food to families and individuals in need while maintaining their dignity.

In the past year alone, 168 volunteers have given more than 4,600 hours of their time to serving the needs of others. From transporting, sorting, and packaging more than 150,000 pounds of food, to fundraising, promotion and serving families in need, we could not do it without you! Thank you for all that you do!
