To all of the supporters of — Thank you for your support and patience.

On August 26, a petition was filed with the court requesting a review of the Negative Declaration decision voted on by the Town of Wappinger Planning Board. While outcomes can’t be predicted or guaranteed, this is part of the legal process that we as citizens can exercise when we are concerned with a decision. This is only the first step in the challenge of what could turn out to be a long process. We will continue to provide you with updates, and thank you so very much for your expressions of encouragement.

Read below to see how a responsive government works in Fishkill. We have way more signatures on our petitions, but with a far different response.

The Town of Fishkill Town Board listened to two petitions from residents. The first from 100 Residents relating to Cell Tower Issues, the second petition from 50+ residents regarding Dutchess Park Lake clean-up.

Meanwhile, our Town of Wappinger Town Board receives two Petitions, first with 1,000 signatures to restore Zoning Code protections from Gas Stations in neighborhoods, and the second Petition with 150 signatures calling for an immediate 6 month moratorium to study the impacts of Gasoline Filling Stations.

Since the June Submittal our petitions the Wappinger Town Board has Ignored, refused to acknowledge, and stonewalled these petitions.

On Monday the Planning Board issued a Negative Declaration allowing this project to go forward.Our fight is not over. Hughsonville, and all of Wappinger needs to be protected from destructive development.

Please help the residents of Hughsonville fund the immediate legal action needed stop the building of a large gas station in the middle of their hamlet and help the Town of Wappinger residents reinstate zoning protections for their neighborhoods.

We need development that aligns to the principles of our County Greenway Compact to ensure our hamlets and neighborhoods can grow and prosper. Our historical and environmental characteristics benefit residents and businesses, and development should not destroy that.

6 Days until we hear the Planning Board's vote! Keep spreading the word. We need to show up for Hughsonville, and for what is right for all Wappinger residents, next Monday!

This is it! Next Monday the Planning Board is set to vote on a Negative Declaration for the gas station project. If they vote in favor, the project will go forward!

Hughsonville is a special place now, but also has so much potential for the future. The Town of Wappinger Comprehensive Plan and County Greenway Compact were adopted to make sure everyone benefits from development, and are zoning code reflects these two plans.

Please sign on to this petition to restore the changes the Town Board made to our zoning code in 2019. These changes do not reflect the smart growth principles of the Greenway Compact and Comprehensive Plan, and have allowed this massive gas station project to be completely out of alignment with the surrounding area. Restoring these zoning codes will ensure future development is better aligned to the characteristics of our hamlet so that as our hamlet grows and prospers, we grow and prosper together!
