Happy 60th Anniversary Columbia County Chamber of Commerce!!! We had a great time this evening at their gala event at Hudson Hall at the historic Hudson Opera House this evening! The food from Savona's Trattoria Hudson was amazing!! It was very nice to enjoy fellowship with old friends and make some new friends too!

This week, Mr B did not go to Washington. But 400 or so Habitat colleagues, partner families, community activists and other affordable housing advocates did.

The annual “Habitat on the Hill” event is an opportunity to meet with federal legislators and their staffs. While like politics, housing is very much local, the federal government has a huge impact on housing, through regulation, tax policy and funding. Connecting federal policy to local issues is an important part of the dialogue that occurs.

Escape the greys and blahs of mid-winter and spend some time giving back! We have a neighbor in need of graduated steps to get into her home. Don't know how a step graduates? Sign up for a volunteer shift and find out...and learn how to build them! We need skilled volunteers and an opportunity for inexperienced volunteers to learn something new! ALL are welcome!

Habitat Helping Hands is all about neighbors helping neighbors here in Columbia County. While we continue our mission to build new affordable housing options (tinyurl.com/TinyHomesAtScale)
for working families, we also recognize the vast need by our senior and disabled homeowners for critical safety and accessibility repairs and upgrades to their existing homes. Habitat Helping Hands projects are completed by volunteers of all walks of life and different skill levels and are coordinated by Habitat's experienced Project Manager who teaches as he leads.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀:

1. Reform the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA)
2. Rethink the property tax system for affordable housing.

Both systems are restricting affordable rental and homeownership opportunities, and small tweaks can make a big difference.

Commentary: These two tweaks would boost the amount of affordable housing in New York state.

The holiday season is a magical time of hope, joy and togetherness for many families living in Habitat for Humanity homes. Whether it’s being able to build a snowman in the front yard, gather the kids around the kitchen table to decorate cookies or inviting friends over for warm apple cider, having a safe and stable home gives families the freedom to create memories that will last a lifetime. For some Habitat homeowners, the holidays are also a special reminder that their house is part Christmas tree.

Each year since 2007, lumber milled from the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree has been used to help a family build their Habitat house.
