AHVMF The AHVM Foundation supports improved research and education into the area of holistic and integrative veterinary medicine. Find out more at www.ahvmf.org.

One research study can cost from $10K to $50K. The AHVMF is dedicated to supporting research and education in complementary and alternative veterinary medicine (CAVM). In underwriting research, we fund humane and cruelty-free research that does not inflict pain or cause harm to any animal. This means the studies involving animals use clinical trials with animals who already have a disease or condi

tion, to demonstrate the effectiveness of CAVM methods against such problems. Prospective grantees are required to submit approval of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), or equivalent review committee, ensuring the aforementioned humane research prior to grant approval. We also support veterinary education via grants for promising veterinary students interested in integrative/holistic veterinary practice and research and by financing veterinary school programs to include CAVM in the curriculum and/or in the veterinary teaching hospital.

May 20th is a beautiful reminder of the thousands of dogs waiting in shelters for their second chance. Whether you adopt, foster, or support your local rescue, you are changing a life.

At AHVMF, we believe every rescue deserves access to compassionate, integrative veterinary care. By funding research into evidence-based therapies that treat the whole animal, we help rescue pets recover from past trauma and build the resilience they need to thrive in their forever homes.

Join us in supporting the science of healing for every rescue dog.

AHVMF is funding essential research into the benefits of veterinary acupuncture for senior pets.

This evidence-based approach is gentle, non-invasive, and remarkably effective at triggering the release of natural, pain-relieving endorphins and reducing inflammation. Acupuncture works on neuroplasticity of the central nervous system to repattern deterimental pain pathways. By providing new paths to comfort and mobility, we can ensure their sunset years are filled with less stiffness and much happier purrs.

Did you know pavement can reach over 125°F on a summer day?

Protect your pet’s paws from severe burns this season with these simple steps:

The 7-Second Rule: Place the back of your hand on the pavement. If you can’t hold it there for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for paws!

Timing is Everything: Walk in the early morning or late evening when surfaces have cooled down.

Stick to the Grass: Whenever possible, walk on grass or shaded trails instead of asphalt.

Gear Up: Consider dog booties or a pet-safe paw wax to create a protective barrier against the heat.

Did you know that chronic inflammation is a major link to cancer in pets?

The good news is that we can take action! Nature provides powerful tools in minimally processed whole food diets including small amounts of fresh fruits (blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, gogi berries) vegetables (dark leafy greens), and pinches of spices (tumeric, ginger, cilantro, rosemary, and cinnamon) that are packed with anti-inflammatory compounds. Interestingly, even wild dogs naturally seek out berries and various plants to stay healthy.

Avoid inflammatory heavily processed foods like kibble.

Bringing the ancient art of healing to our modern-day companions! 🐾✨

Acupuncture is a game-changer for pain management in animals, offering a drug-free way to reduce inflammation and release feel good endorphins, enkephalins, serotonin, and dopamine.

Whether it's helping a senior dog walk more comfortably, supporting a horse's recovery, keeping a performance animal at its peak, or improving fertility in livestock, these tiny needles deliver big results for animal wellness and mobility.

Supporting the mission of the AHVMF means more pets get access to these life-changing holistic treatments.

Against all odds, Sheba the cat lived a vibrant 13 years after a traumatic accident that many thought was the end of her story.

Faced with severe nerve damage and chronic health issues, her family turned to integrative modalities like homeopathy, acupuncture, and chiropractic care to manage her special needs.

These holistic tools didn't just improve her quality of life—they saved it, resolving "uncontrollable" complications that traditional medicine couldn't fix.

Sheba’s resilience is a powerful testament to why the AHVMF funds critical research into these life-saving alternative therapies.

By supporting the foundation, you help ensure more pets have access to the same miracles that gave Sheba a long, happy life.

Acupuncture is far more than just "needles"—it is a sophisticated, science-backed method of neuro-stimulation.

By inserting thin, sterile needles into specific points where nerve bundles and blood vessels converge, we can trigger the body’s own healing mechanisms.

Here is how it works internally:

• Natural Pain Relief: The stimulation of these points signals the brain to release endorphins and serotonin, the body’s natural "feel-good" and pain-killing hormones.

• Improved Circulation: Localized needling causes small vessels to dilate, increasing blood flow and oxygen to damaged tissues to speed up the repair process.

• Reduced Inflammation: Acupuncture helps regulate the immune response, quieting the systemic inflammation often found in chronic conditions like arthritis.

• Nervous System Balance: It helps shift the body from a "stress" state to a "healing" state, improving everything from digestion to sleep.
