Part 5 of O-I-See's Journey 🌟 Responding to Community Needs (2020) 🌟

In 2020, as the COVID‑19 pandemic reshaped daily life, O‑I‑See Youth Strategies responded with adaptability and determination. Telehealth services were launched even before statewide shutdowns, ensuring youth could continue receiving support without disruption. This period really highlights O-I-See's commitment to flexibility, connection, and meeting youth exactly where they were, emotionally, physically, and technologically.

Through teamwork and creativity, older computers and cell phones were repurposed to keep services accessible for families navigating new challenges. Despite the uncertainty of the pandemic, O‑I‑See maintained stability: no layoffs occurred, and the team continued to expand, welcoming a new mentor in the summer of 2020.

This chapter reflects a defining truth of O‑I‑See’s mission: care continues, even in crisis, and community needs guide every decision.

Just like that, it’s September.

September always feels like a gentle reset — the school year begins, routines fall back into place, and the air starts to hint at sweaters and warm drinks☕. I’m grateful for the rhythm this month brings, the comfort of routine, and the promise of new beginnings reflected in the changing leaves. 🍂

What is your go-to fall drink? Are you more likely to grab a pumpkin spice latte or an apple c***r? For me, apple c***r with a little caramel on top! 🍎

A couple of weeks ago, we shared our Tree Room, a calm space designed to help youth relax and recharge. One of the features in that room is our Zen garden.

Zen gardens can help reduce stress, encourage mindfulness, and provide a quiet moment to reset during a busy day. For youth, simple activities like arranging the little bridge or creating patterns in the sand can promote focus, emotional regulation, and a sense of calm.

Sometimes the smallest spaces can have the biggest impact. 💚

Today we are sharing part 4 of O-I-See's journey. 🌟Laying the Nonprofit Foundation (2016–2019) 🌟

O‑I‑See Youth Strategies began building the structural roots that would one day support a full nonprofit transition. As awareness grew around the value of nonprofit collaboration, transparency, and community trust, early planning took shape behind the scenes.

During this period, a Human Services intern joined the work, helping strengthen foundational systems and deepen understanding of youth‑centered service models. Even while O‑I‑See operated as a small for‑profit entity, the long‑term vision was already clear: the mission would eventually evolve into a nonprofit organization.

That future took its first official step on May 4, 2016, when O‑I‑See’s nonprofit identity was formally recorded within governmental filings.

We are loving the throwback picture of our helpers cleaning up brick for O-I-See.

National Thoughtful Day is tomorrow, and it's the perfect reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can shift someone’s whole day.

Take a moment to do something intentional and kind today, it doesn’t have to be big to matter. Maybe it's telling someone what you’re grateful for about them. Buying coffee for the person behind you in the drive‑thru or leaving a note on a friend or loved one’s car to brighten their morning.

Thoughtfulness creates a ripple effect: one small action inspires another, and before long, an entire community feels the impact. Let’s start that ripple today. 💖

This week we are sharing a bit more of O-I-See's journey: Community Partnerships and Purposeful Growth 🌟 (2012–2015)

Between 2012 and 2013, O-I-See expanded its reach by partnering with community and county-based systems, including Children’s Long-Term Support (CLTS), while remaining committed to individualized, relationship-centered services.

As the organization grew organically (2013-2015), it added staff and broadened programming without losing sight of its core belief: There is nothing “wrong” with a child, and no child needs to be fixed to belong. 💖

During this period, founder Jennifer made significant personal sacrifices to prioritize staff compensation and youth services. To support the organization's growth, she purchased a dedicated home for O-I-See's operations, transitioning from a small office into a space better suited for the work. The home's garage housed vehicles used to transport youth to and from sessions, and the property itself became an extension of the program. Caring for and maintaining the space created opportunities for youth and staff to contribute, build practical life skills, and strengthen their sense of community.

Thank you for following along with us each week as we look back on how it all a started! 🙂

Board games are one of our favorite ways to build connection here at O-I-See. Whether it's a rainy day, a scorching hot afternoon, or you just quiet moments, board games bring connection, friendly competition, and are great for building social skills. 🎲

Some sessions are spent doing just that, connecting through playing a board game together. The youth can look through our big cabinet full of options, choose the game, read through the instructions, and set it up. This can feel empowering!

When the game ends, they are also working through emotions. Whether they lost the game or, better yet, feeling the joy of winning against one of our mentors! 🙌🏽
