The hardest goodbyes are the ones filled with love. ❤️

Today was one of those days.

We loaded up Preacher and Bak and took them to their forever home together. While our hearts are heavy, they are also incredibly full. This is the part of rescue that is both the most difficult and the most rewarding. We pour our hearts into these horses, love them as our own, help them heal, work through their challenges, learn their personalities, and then one day we load them up and watch them drive away.

These boys have come such a long way.

Bak arrived after years of neglect and health challenges. Through it all, he never lost his gentle spirit. Preacher came to us needing medical care, patience, and a chance to simply be loved. Together, these boys captured the hearts of so many volunteers and supporters.

As difficult as today is, this is exactly why we do what we do. Rescue was never meant to be forever. Rescue is about giving horses a second chance, preparing them for success, and finding the perfect family to continue their journey.

We are beyond grateful to their adopters for opening their hearts and home to not just one, but both of these special boys. Knowing they will spend their days together on beautiful acreage, with a family committed to their care and happiness, brings us tremendous comfort.

A special thank you to Nick and Brittany for helping make today possible. Since we could not fit both of these big boys in one trailer, they stepped up and transported Bak while we hauled Preacher. It truly takes a village, and we are so thankful for people willing to give their time to help horses in need.

Thank you to every volunteer who mucked a stall, filled a water bucket, groomed, walked, loved, trained, and cared for these horses. Thank you to every donor and supporter who made their feed, veterinary care, farrier visits, supplements, and daily needs possible. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and cheered them on along the way.

This mission takes a village, and today is a reminder that every donation, every share, every volunteer hour, and every act of kindness changes lives.

Happy trails, Preacher and Bak. We love you both more than words can say, and we cannot wait to watch you thrive in your forever home. ❤️🐴

Seven adoption update 💛

Look at this boy thriving and absolutely loving life in his new home with the kiddos. This is exactly what rescue is all about — watching them settle in, feel loved, and become part of a family.

We are so thankful for Seven’s family for giving him the patience, love, and home he deserves. Happy trails, sweet boy! ☀️🐴 @

Maggie Mae update 💛

Look at Maggie Mae and Cameron enjoying the water on these hot summer days ☀️💦 These two truly are the perfect match, and updates like this make our hearts so happy.

Watching the bond between a horse and their person grow is one of the things we pride ourselves on here at SSRR. We spend countless hours getting to know each horse, evaluating them carefully, and making sure they are matched with the right family.

Seeing Maggie Mae living her best life, loved and cherished, is exactly why we do what we do. Thank you for continuing to share these beautiful moments with us ❤️

Please help us welcome Sunny to Stricker Sunshine Rescue Ranch ☀️

Sunny’s mom and I have been chatting about this sweet boy for months. While Sunny is very loved by his family, life simply did not allow them the time he deserves to continue his education and training. Wanting the very best for him, they made the difficult but responsible decision to entrust SSRR with his future.

Sunny is 5 years old and has not been started under saddle yet. Over the coming weeks and months, we will begin working with him on groundwork, confidence building, manners, and helping him learn all the basics of being a horse partner. Our hope is to eventually send him to training with Cat Zimmerman once he is ready for the next step.

For the last 3.5 years, Sunny’s only companions were goats, so it has been heartwarming watching him begin to make horse friends and settle into herd life.

We are honored that Sunny’s family trusted us to guide him forward and ensure he never slips through the cracks. This is exactly why our strict adoption process, approved applications, and contracts matter so much. Every horse deserves a safe, committed, forever home.

Welcome to the SSRR family, Sunny 💛

Please add all your favorite photos of Bak Bak in the comments below ❤️🐴 it’s been lovely being a part of this boys journey.

This is such a hard post to write… but we are beyond happy for Bak. ❤️

Bak has been with us for almost 2 years. During that time, we have faced many hurdles with his health and care, and somewhere along the way, we became incredibly attached to this sweet boy. Truthfully, many people never thought we would actually adopt Bak out… but we have always said we were waiting for the RIGHT family.

And that family came.

Preacher’s new family has experience with draft horses and high maintenance horses, and after long conversations about Bak’s needs, we all feel comfortable and confident that he will be happy, loved, and well cared for.

Bak and Preacher will now spend their days together on 10 beautiful acres with a beautiful barn, plenty of fans, and all the love they deserve. Of course, Bak’s porta cooler will be making the trip with him too. ❤️

Their new family currently has two mini horses, and now these two giant boys will complete their herd.

This one is going to be so hard on us. The tears are already flowing. But this is why we do what we do. Rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome.

To each of you that follow, support, volunteer and cheer us on, you help make this possible. Thank you

Please help us congratulate Bak and Preacher on their next chapter.

Bak has been with SSRR for 2 years, overcoming health issues caused by neglect, and now look at him bringing joy to children and volunteers every single day. ❤️ While he is still available for adoption, the right home has not come along yet, so we are asking for sponsors to help support this very special boy. 🐴☀️
Full disclaimer: the kids did have boots on when they were on the ground however was coming off when they got on Bak. Their grandma stayed right next to them. Safety is #1 for us 😊

It’s been a great evening at SSRR. ❤️🐴

There’s just something peaceful about watching the horses graze, play, and simply enjoy life after all they’ve been through. These quiet moments remind us why we do what we do.

And can we talk about how tiny Bak looks standing next to Preacher? 😂 When your pasture buddy is basically a gentle giant, everyone looks small beside him.

Moments like these make all the hard work worth it.

A huge thank you to Brian for always stepping up when needed most. While we were away delivering Bailey and River to their wonderful new home, Brian was here working hard at the rescue.

After the storm, a tree had fallen on the fence, and without hesitation he cut it down, removed additional dead trees, ground out the stumps, and even installed a brand new gate for Roy.

It’s people like Brian and his family that remind us what this mission is truly about. Their willingness to give their time, hard work, and heart to help the horses in need is beyond appreciated. Knowing there are families standing beside us for the right reasons means more than words can express.

Thank you, Brian, for all that you do for SSRR and the horses we fight for every single day. ❤️🐴
