Summer camp is more than simply a place for kids to get away from home, meet new friends, and have fun. It provides children with a community of caring adults who help build self-respect and a safe environment where a kid can be a kid. Located on the shores of Amy Belle Lake, just 30 minutes from downtown Milwaukee, YMCA Camp Minikani sets the highest standards in resident camping through programs

that match the interests and abilities of each camper. Our desire at Camp Minikani is to create a place where friendships can grow and people can learn. Camp is about developing the life skills that help campers build and maintain positive relationships, learn about the difference in others, and feel confident in the person they are becoming. This means we have demonstrated compliance with more than 300 individual health, safety, and program quality standards. These standards establish criteria for program, personnel, transportation, administrative procedures, health care, food service, program activities, and emergency procedures. Accreditation assures parents and campers that Camp Minikani has been measured against national standards for best practices in the camping industry and we are proud to be among only 25% of camps in the United States which are accredited.

Thankfully the weather broke before lunch and we've gotten our fair share of outdoors time this afternoon. We've ridden the wave of this week right into Wednesday! Even with the occasional rain shower, campers finished off their first round of skills and had a great time getting to enjoy an afternoon of activities planned by the LTs. The fun continues into the evening, with the welcome addition of our Day Campers staying over for their sleepover!

Session 3 is coming to a close! It makes us sad to see another group of campers departing Minikani, but looking back at all of the great times we've had together over the past days certainly lifts our spirits. Even if the rain brings us indoors, we'll be sure to close the session out right with tonight's closing campfire!
