Stories on Main is here!

Sheridan County Community Foundation is proud to announce the completion of Stories on Main, a community storytelling project celebrating the people and history of Hoxie's Main Street.

Produced by Story Pocket Productions of Hoxie, Kansas, with producer and videographer Ed Lowry and assistant Simone Lowry, the film captures the memories of six lifelong community members whose stories bring our downtown history to life.

Featuring stories from Larry Cressler, Adriane Falco, Dave Mahanna, Donna Mowry, Roberta Shipley, and Don Rowlison, the film shares unforgettable memories—from cruising Main Street to favorite local businesses and the people who made Hoxie special.

The project highlights historically accurate photographs curated through a partnership with the Sheridan County Historical Society. It showcases the artistic process behind the Mural on Main, painted by Jen Carder, Chloe Johnson, and Sarah Dardis.

"The interviews are a treasure of the past brought back into memory for all to enjoy," says — Sofia White, SCCF Projects Coordinator

Created to deepen the conversation surrounding Hoxie's Main Street history, "Stories on Main" reminds us that Sheridan County's greatest asset has always been its people.

About the Filmmaker:

From the Kansas Commerce page
" The Kansas Community Empowerment Program supports volunteer-led efforts to revitalize, inspire, strengthen, and elevate communities across Kansas. Backed by the Kansas Department of Commerce, this program provides tools, training, and funding that help local leaders turn great ideas into lasting impact. Whether it’s downtown beautification, civic engagement, or leadership development, we’re here to help your community move from intention to action—and from action to transformation."

Commerce and the Kansas Community Empowerment program announce two new grants!

The Kickstart Grant will provide funding for smaller, community-driven projects, while the Impact Grant will support larger, long-term investments. Communities will benefit from the beautification, rehabilitation and reinvestment into public spaces made possible by these new opportunities.

Sheridan County Community Foundation was excited to be a part of Fair Fun Day this morning in downtown Hoxie. We think our Cash Cube and Bouncy House were huge hits and fun was had by all!

In addition to grabbing cash for fair tickets, 4 lucky winners grabbed the Gold Star Cash. These 4 winners then chose a Sheridan County organization of their choice to which the Foundation granted a GOLD STAR SURPRISE GRANT of $250 to each of those 4 chosen organizations.

A gracious thank you to Blake Koster for choosing to grant to AmberMed, Howdy Garner for choosing Sheridan County 4H Council, Finn Stickel for choosing USD 412 PTO, and Boaz Etherton for choosing Christ Community Church.

Hope everyone is enjoying the Sheridan County Fair activities this week!
