When people think of wildlife rehabilitation, they often picture baby animals, medical treatments, and successful releases back into the wild.

What they don’t always see are the loads of laundry, stacks of dishes, habitat cleaning, food preparation, supply runs, and countless hours of daily care that make those moments possible.

The behind-the-scenes work may not be glamorous, but it’s essential to every animal that comes through our doors.

This $5 Friday, we’re asking our supporters to consider making a $5 donation to help us continue providing the care wildlife depends on every single day.

Every dollar helps. Every share helps. Every act of support helps wildlife. 🦝💚

It’s that time of the year where we see our previously rehabbed squirrels in passing! Before you ask, yes, we do recognize which squirrels we know vs don’t know! Do they recognize us? Not always! We do our best to re-wild all of the animals that come through here, and it’s actually a good thing when they don’t recognize us 😆

🦝 Raccoons are some of New Jersey’s most intelligent wildlife! These curious mammals have excellent problem-solving skills, incredible memories, and highly sensitive front paws that help them explore the world around them.

While they may seem bold, raccoons play an important role in our ecosystem by helping disperse seeds and clean up natural food sources. Like all wildlife, they thrive best when given space to remain wild.

The next time you spot a raccoon, take a moment to appreciate one of nature’s cleverest neighbors from a respectful distance!

A real life result of your donations. The squirrel pictured here was one of the rehabilitation patients we had as an orphan. Now, our little patient has grown up, and is once again, WILD!
While it’s amazing for us to see these animals flourish back into their natural habitats, it’s even more amazing that this was possible from our community 💚
🐿️ Today’s $5 Friday is inspired by this story, so we can keep going for the animals who need us most. If you’d like to donate today:

This humid morning, we came across this beautiful wild Eastern box turtle here at the wildlife center. 🐢🍂

Eastern box turtles are one of New Jersey’s most iconic native reptiles, known for their incredible orange and yellow shell patterns — no two are exactly alike! These turtles can live for decades in the wild and even have a hinged shell that allows them to completely close up for protection. 🫣

A special reminder of the amazing native wildlife we share our state with. 💛 Don’t forget - when we see healthy wildlife crossing our paths, the best thing to do is to leave them alone😊

Bart, Maggie, and Lisa are doing puuurrrrfect! 😻 These little cuties spend all day playing, eating, and being adorable. It’s been an honor to assist in their growth, vet appointments, and future adoptions 🤍
🙏Thank you for making it possible for our organization to
help all animals.

When people encounter injured wildlife, the instinct is often to rush closer, gather around, take photos, or try to help immediately. But to a wild animal, that attention can feel overwhelming and frightening.

Crowds, loud voices, sudden movement, and close contact can increase stress during an already vulnerable moment — even when people mean well.

If you find injured wildlife:
• Keep a respectful distance
• Keep pets and children away
• Reduce noise and activity nearby
• Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for guidance

Sometimes the most compassionate thing we can do is create calm while help is on the way. 💚

Raccoons are true omnivores — but if you’ve ever worked with them, you know fruit is almost always a favorite. 🍓🫐🍉

From juicy grapes to crunchy apples, fruit provides hydration, enrichment, and important nutrients for wild raccoons in rehabilitation. Gonzo is a snack monster to begin with, and he never turns down fruit! 🦝

In the wild, raccoons naturally forage for a wide variety of foods depending on the season — including fruits, berries, nuts, insects, eggs, and more. Their curiosity and adaptability are a huge part of what makes them such intelligent survivors.

(And yes… they absolutely know when snack time is happening. 👀)

$5 Friday is dedicated to the behind-the-scenes side of wildlife rehabilitation. 🦝🧺

Not every rescue need is dramatic — sometimes it’s the endless laundry, disinfectant, gloves, paper towels, enrichment supplies, produce, and cleanup materials that keep everything running safely for the animals in our care.

Wildlife rehabilitation is messy, exhausting, and constant… but every single patient depends on these everyday supplies.

If you’d like to help support the unseen work that keeps rehabilitation possible, we’d appreciate any contribution toward today’s $5 Friday. ❤️
