A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the inaugural Hatzolah CJ ambulance in Howell Township, procured through a state grant facilitated by Senator Bob Singer and Assemblyman Avi Schnall.

"This new ambulance represents an important investment in public safety and emergency medical services for our community. As Howell Township continues to grow, so does the demand for emergency response resources. The addition of this ambulance will help expand service capacity and improve response capabilities, benefiting all residents throughout Howell Township when medical emergencies arise" said Senator Robert Singer.

"Regardless of background, neighborhood, or affiliation, emergency services are about helping people in their time of need. This additional resource strengthens the overall EMS network serving Howell and reflects the importance of partnerships between local providers, state officials, and community organizations working together to meet the needs of a growing population" said Assemblyman Avi Schnall.

Strong home sales and homes selling above asking price may be great news for current sellers and realtors, but it’s not necessarily good news for everyone else.
When housing supply can’t keep up with demand, home prices rise. As values increase, assessments often follow, and that can mean higher property taxes for homeowners. In a state already struggling with affordability, that’s a challenge many residents feel every year.
At the same time, local governments face rising costs, much of which is non-discretionary spending. When expenses continue to climb and the tax base doesn’t grow enough to offset them, taxpayers are left carrying more of the burden.
Many residents oppose new housing or commercial for a variety of reasons, wanting to preserve a rural character, NIMBY or no one else is welcomed mentality, some legitimate concerns about traffic, schools, or quality of life. Some valid and deserve discussion. But limiting housing supply while demand continues to grow doesn’t solve affordability issues and can contribute to higher housing costs and tax pressures over time.
Good news for sellers today. The bigger question is whether it’s good news for the long-term affordability of Howell tomorrow.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE: E-BIKES vs. E-DIRTBIKES

The Howell Township Police Department is seeing an increase in unauthorized electric dirt bikes on our roadways. For the safety of our community, it is essential to understand the legal differences between electric bicycles and electric dirt bikes. Operating an illegal vehicle on public property can lead to significant fines and the impoundment and forfeiture of the dirt bike.

Electric Bikes (E-Bikes)
Standard e-bikes are designed to assist your pedaling and are generally treated similarly to traditional bicycles, but with specific new state requirements.

• Legal Operation: Permitted on public streets. You must follow all standard traffic laws, including stopping at signs and yielding to pedestrians.

• New NJ Laws: As previously mentioned in our January 20th update, New Jersey has implemented a new classification system.

o Registration, Insurance & Licensing: Most e-bikes will require registration with the NJMVC, liability insurance, and the operator must hold a valid driver's license or a specialized motorized bicycle license. The grace period ends on July 19, 2026.

o Age Limit: You must be at least 15 years old to operate any e-bike on public roads. This is already in effect.

E-Dirtbikes & ATVs
These are considered motor vehicles, not bicycles. They lack pedals and are designed for off-road performance only.
• Prohibited Areas: It is illegal to operate e-dirtbikes or ATVs on any public road, sidewalk, trail, or park.

• Private Property Only: These vehicles may only be used on private property with the explicit consent of the owner.

• Strict Penalties: Under Howell Township Ordinance Chapter 59, these vehicles are considered contraband when used on public roads and are subject to forfeiture. Operators of these vehicles are subject to New Jersey motor vehicle summonses. Parents of any juvenile operator are subject to summonses for allowing this activity.

The Howell Police Department has initiated enhanced enforcement targeting the illegal use of e-dirtbikes AND prohibited e-bikes on our streets and public properties. We are committed to keeping our neighborhoods safe from the high-speed, reckless operation of these unauthorized vehicles.

What Are Our Local and State Elected Officials Doing?
Howell Township has introduced a new mercantile license ordinance at a time when businesses are already dealing with high property taxes, corporate taxes, fees, red tape, and government bureaucracy.

Yes, there is always a balance between protecting quality of life and maintaining affordability. But new regulations should be thoroughly vetted and workshopped with residents and business owners to ensure the benefits outweigh the costs.

New Jersey’s unemployment rate is 4.8%, higher than the national average of 4.3%. Shouldn’t our focus be on attracting businesses, creating jobs, and reducing barriers to economic growth?

How does adding another license requirement help small businesses and taxpayers?

Are we making it easier or harder to live, work, and do business in New Jersey?

Keeping a roof over your head costs less than keeping your family covered. That is not a market failure; that is a system rigged by democrat liberals and government bureaucrats designed to benefit corporate giants at the expense of everyday Americans. Premiums are soaring, and insurers are cashing in. Property taxes will continue to soar because we help pay for the premiums for state and municipal employees that are skyrocketing. It needs to stop.
