Today, on Trans Day of Visibility, we honor and celebrate the strength, joy, and resilience of transgender and nonbinary people in our communities.

At a time when trans individuals continue to face disproportionate challenges—especially in access to affirming healthcare, mental health support, and basic safety—it’s more important than ever to center wellness in all its forms. Trans wellness means more than just care; it means dignity, protection, belonging, and the freedom to live authentically.

We see you. We value you. And we remain committed to building a community where trans people are not only visible, but supported, safe, and thriving—every day of the year.

Today, we celebrate the courage, leadership, determination, and accomplishments of all who live and identify as women!

In August 2025, Houston’s LGBTQ Mayoral Advisory Board began its work with a newly appointed slate of members. Over the past six months, we’ve focused on building a strong foundation—getting to know one another, aligning on priorities, and organizing ourselves to best serve our community.

During this time, we have:
• Established committees designed to more effectively gather community input and channel it to City Hall. Such committees include Policy & Advocacy, Coalition, and Events & Engagement
• Built relationships with key city officials and spent time with community leaders to understand concerns of their organizations
• Engaged with the Harris County LGBTQIA Commission to share best practices and form a key partnership for what will likely be a long and challenging road ahead in the current climate

Now, we’re excited to take the next step...

In the coming weeks, we’ll be using our social media channels to share what we’re working on, highlight ways the community can engage with us which will include upcoming meetings and open forums, and strengthen our role as a connector in building and sustaining a safe and inclusive LGBTQ Houston - the most diverse city in the USA. Most importantly, we are prepared and eager to hear from YOU, the community, on how we can best serve.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve and look forward to deeper engagement across our city. More to come soon!

49 hearts.
49 dreams.
49 reasons we refuse to stay silent.

On this day, we remember the lives stolen at Pulse …the laughter that was silenced, the love that was targeted, the joy that was seen as a threat. But out of that darkness, Houston answered. Congressman and former Mayor Sylvester Turner didn’t just grieve, he acted. He formed this LGBTQ Advisory Board as a promise to the community: never again, not on our watch.

And now, in these trying times when hate tries to rewrite our laws, erase our identities, and strip us of safety, THAT promise must live louder than ever.

This is a call to the helpers, the healers, the quiet warriors, and the loud ones too. Step up. Your voice is needed. Your courage is contagious. Your presence is protest.

We carry the legacy of Pulse not in pity, but in power. We honor Mayor Turner’s vision not in name, but in action. And we will not rest until every q***r child, every trans elder, every chosen family knows they are protected, seen, and free.

Grief called us to gather. But love is what calls us to rise.

It is with deep sadness that we announce that friend and ally Congressman and former Mayor of the City of Houston Sylvester Turner who established our LGBTQIA Advisory Board has passed.

It is no secret that Congressman Turner played a vital role in deepening the ties with and expanding safety within the LGBTQIA community of Greater Houston. His commitment was made apparent with his response to the 2016 Pulse Nightclub Shooting by establishing the LGBTQIA Advisory Board.

“This is the most diverse city in America,” Turner said. “We acknowledge and celebrate that diversity in all its dimensions. You can be diverse and yet separate, segregated and apart. As Mayor of this City, I want us to be diverse and inclusive, and I want to live in a City where people can be who they are and we can be tolerant of people’s opinions, ideologies, sexual orientation, ethnicities, religion and/or cultures.”
