The AmeriCorps Seniors – Senior Companion Program (SCP) of Harris County, TX is currently onboarding volunteers who want to make a meaningful impact in the lives of older adults.

We’re looking for volunteers who:
✔️ Are 55+
✔️ Live in Harris County, TX
✔️ Meet federal income guidelines
✔️ Have a heart for service and connection 💙

What volunteers receive:
✨ Comprehensive screening & training
✨ A modest hourly stipend
✨ Mileage or METRO reimbursement
✨ Support from a mission‑driven team

Who we serve:
Older adults in Harris County who need companionship or extra help—and the service is 100% free for eligible clients.

As we prepare to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we invite you to join the AmeriCorps Senior Companion Program’s MLK Book Donation Drive! This is a wonderful opportunity to uplift our community by sharing the power of reading with others.

Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”

On Monday, January 19, the MLK Day of Service is America’s opportunity to re-commit ourselves through service to one another and our communities. Observed each year on the third Monday in January, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is a federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer their time, talent, and resources to improve their communities. AmeriCorps has been charged with leading this effort for over three decades.

This year, we’re collecting adult books—new or gently used, any genre—to support the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Medical Center. Your contributions will help foster connection, comfort, and lifelong learning for veterans in our community.

The Senior Companion Program in Harris County, TX invites applications from dedicated individuals 55 years and older who reside in Harris County, TX. Successful applicants will be paired with seniors to provide companionship and supportive care, promoting aging in place.

To qualify, applicants must meet federal income guidelines. Volunteers will receive training, a modest non-taxable stipend, and reimbursement for mileage and Metro expenses.

This program is provided at no cost to clients aged 55 and above residing in Harris County, TX.
