The VNCH community center is having cement poured in the driveway in front of the memorial which would make the area look much more asthetically pleasing replacing the milled rock driveway.

Once the foundation was finished, the next biggest challenge was how to get the airplane on. I was thinking of building a ramp of wood and dirt and use a Bobcat to pull it up on to the base. Another idea was to get about 20 people to pull the plane up with the help of a pickup truck. Added to the challenge was the ground was very muddy from the rain. Fortunately, a friend of the center called and he said he had a crane that can lift the plane up and set it down. We agreed right away and he came the next afternoon. The issue that came up was he has never hooked a plane up before and worried about causing damage but fortunately my father and other VNAF members were there to lend advice on how best to do it. I was very nervous because I knew the plane was fragile but the operation went very well and when it was set down, tears came to my eyes because my vision for this memorial that has been in my head for a year was finally taking shape.
