When my daughter was diagnosed with autism at age seven, I was suddenly immersed in a whirlwind of challenges. Her extreme picky eating, hand-flapping, and rigid routines made everyday life feel overwhelming.
I did everything I could to get her to eat—sometimes relying on fresh fruit, other times hoping she would accept mini arepas or whatever homemade meals I could prepare. As long as she ate something, I felt a sense of relief.
When she began drinking juices, I even convinced myself it was the same as eating an apple—anything to reassure myself she was getting some form of nutrition.
But as her symptoms persisted—grayish stools, increasing rigidity, and constant sensory overload—I realized that simply getting by was no longer enough.
Through countless hours of self-education and guidance from her therapist, I discovered something that changed everything: the powerful connection between gut health and behavior.
As we worked on repairing her gut, I saw meaningful changes—calmer behaviors, improved digestion, and a growing willingness to try new foods. For the first time, we experienced real progress, and I felt empowered to truly help her thrive.
This journey inspired me to create a business. THINKER GARDEN LEARNING CENTER was born for her—and for all the local children with special needs.
