Long before the hats, the brunches, and the photo ops, Black jockeys were the foundation of the Kentucky Derby.

In fact, 15 of the first 28 Derby winners were Black riders — dominating a sport and a stage that history doesn’t always give them credit for today. Names like Isaac Murphy, Oliver Lewis, and Jimmy Winkfield helped build the legacy people celebrate every year, even if their stories were pushed to the background over time.

So when you see us dressed to the nines for Derby weekend, understand it’s bigger than fashion or a theme. It’s recognition. It’s remembrance. It’s paying respect to Black excellence that was present from the very beginning.

Legacy matters. And we believe in celebrating all of it. 🐎🥃🌹

Our journey began with a special first stop — Florida A&M University (FAMU). Walking the campus with our mentees was a powerful moment. For many of them, this was another opportunity to see what their future could look like and experience firsthand the legacy and culture of an incredible HBCU.

After FAMU, we hit the road and made our way to Atlanta, where Day 2 was packed with powerful experiences. We visited Morehouse College, spent time reflecting at The King Center, and closed the day with an incredible visit to Microsoft. Our mentees heard directly from professionals who shared their real-world journeys — how their college choices, courses, internships, and experiences helped prepare them for careers in technology and leadership.

This is what exposure looks like.

Long bus rides.
Early mornings.
Historic campuses.
Real conversations about the future.

And young men willing to invest their spring break into building the next chapter of their lives.

If you’d like to support this journey and help us continue creating opportunities like this for our mentees, you can donate here:

Rise & Shine. The journey begins. 🚌

Today our mentees begin the Next Chapter 2026 College Tour — traveling through 5 states and visiting 8 HBCU campuses. Our first stop: Florida A&M University (FAMU), the alma mater of our chapter president and two of our board members.

While many students are enjoying spring break, these boys made a different choice.

They chose exposure.
They chose growth.
They chose to invest in their future.

Over the next several days they’ll be meeting with college admissions teams, working on group projects, learning the history of these campuses, and spending long hours on the road together.

This is what opportunity looks like.

Because success is rarely accidental. It begins when young people are willing to invest in themselves — and when a community steps up to support them.

If you’d like to help create these life-changing experiences for our mentees, you can support the tour below:

⚖️ HOUSTON, WE’RE HITTING PAUSE — BUT NOT STOPPING!

Due to anticipated freezing weather conditions this Saturday, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our youth, families, and staff, we have made the decision to postpone this Saturday’s event.

💡 The good news is that the event has been rescheduled as follows:

New Date: Saturday, January 31, 2026

All programming, rotations, and activities will proceed exactly as planned. Only the date has changed.

Standing on sacred ground with the next generation. ✊🏾

This MLK Weekend, our student mentees stood before Dr. King’s statue on the campus of Morehouse College—surrounded by brothers committed to their growth, their voices, and their future.

Dr. King reminded us:

“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable.”

Mentorship is how we move the dream forward—by investing our youth, opening doors, and walking alongside them.

The dream lives when we do the work.
