“As we influence the thought patterns of our youth we will change the world and create unlimited possibilities.”

Avengers Youth Mentoring Organization one-on-one mentoring program is designed to reach youth on all levels. Research has revealed that our youth today struggles with role confusion and identity crisis that comes from the absentee of a positive role model in their lives. Unfortunately every child does not grow up in a two parent household which makes things difficult for a single parent raising a

child. The only way that the bills can get paid is to work to provide for the family. As a single parent myself I struggle to find someone that I truly trust to watch my daughter as I work and go to school. Our vision
“Creating a world where villages raise our children through mentoring, empowering them to be successful adults and in turn build loving, compassionate communities.”

“As we influence the thought patterns of our youth we will change the world and create unlimited possibilities.”

Objectives
Avengers Youth Mentoring Organization is a 501©3 organization providing mentoring programs as well as mentors for middle and high school youth throughout the Metro Detroit Area. The program will form partnerships with local school districts and the juvenile court system. Avengers Youth Mentoring Organization matches a caring adult volunteer with a referred youth. Avengers Youth Mentoring Organization will setup four distinct mentoring programs:

• Swimmers: Swimmers is the central program of Avengers Youth Mentoring Organization. At risk middle school students and their mentors participate in a structured program of support.

• Treaders: Treaders focuses on students who are treading to stay afloat in the midst of so much opposition and lack of parental support. Some of these are students that are chronically suspended from middle or high schools.

• Fishermen: Fishermen is a program that is designed to reach youth that are incarcerated and/or entangled in the juvenile court system. We will pair up mentors with homeless/incarcerated youth and encourage them by showing them love and increasing their hope.

• Beginners: Beginners work with kids that are in elementary schools. We will work close with these kids through our summer camp and basketball programs instilling aspiration and determination in each and every last one of them. Our team is working hard to create a program that will execute our objective and our common goal. Avengers Youth Mentoring Organization’s mentoring program is currently stationary at Wayne State University as a Wayne State Chapter. The mentoring program undergoes several phases in order to find the perfect candidates for our youth.

After years away, seeing this vision come back to life is something special. Today’s Memorial Day Parade was more than a performance—it was a milestone.

Special thanks to Matthew Matlock Jr. for spearheading this and Matthew Matlock Sr. and Daryl Hurn for leading it.

This is only the beginning.
