The concept of the Azíos Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Inc. was conceived when a cousin suggested a simple idea at the dinner table: Let’s create a family scholarship fund to support exceptional, low-income students of Hispanic heritage. This small group of family grew to include more co
usins and their adult children, thankful for their many blessings and dedicated to investing in academic opportunity. Soon a board of directors and executive committee were elected, bylaws and policy and procedures established, Non-Profit Corporation regulations for the State of Texas were met, criteria for application and selection of scholarships were determined, a website and brochure created, and application for 501 (c) (3) status was successfully filed. Initial funding was received through bereavement memorials following the death of the family patriarch. Currently, AHSFI goals for planned activities include: 1) increased awareness within the academic community of AHSFI and its scholarships available to students, 2) public fundraising, 3) mentoring of scholarship recipients to include career networking, 4) supporting opportunities for recipients to positively impact and advance the community. AHSFI will continue to evolve as student needs are addressed and funding is available. So with love and appreciation, here’s to you, Don José María Azíos and Doña Petra Azíos, and to their six sons- our fathers and grandfathers, and their wives- our dear mothers and grandmothers. We honor you and your legacy by creating one of our own- a scholarship fund that will support the educational opportunity of individuals who will reach their goals and enrich their lives - and will advance the community in which they live. Our Core Values
The six enterprising Azíos brothers all married women of integrity, as equally strong, passionate and loving as their husbands. Together as an extended family they raised a total of sixteen children. The core values represent a composite set of values that our parents readily expressed as they brought up their offspring. In an effort to give back, we, the offspring, have created this scholarship fund to honor them and to help others gain access to an advanced education as a pathway to a better future. The following are the core values of this organization:
Family is valued as a source of support and a focus of support. Community is valued as an extension of self and a focus of civic participation to enhance a civil society. Scholarship is valued as a commitment to personal improvement for the sake of service to self, family, and society. Self-improvement is also valued when a person also strives to improve others’ lot in life. Respect is valued as given to all persons who live in today’s varied family structures, with special emphasis paid to the elderly and those with physical or emotional limitations. Dignity is valued when provided to all people regardless of gender, ethnicity, or religious preference, with a practice of tolerance for any beliefs seen as different from oneself’s. Service is valued as a commitment to servanthood and leadership when called to lead. Our Mission
The Azíos Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Inc., established in 2013, provides financial assistance to limited-income students of Hispanic heritage in pursuit of educational opportunities in the United States of America. Our Vision

As the grandchildren and great grandchildren of Don José María and Doña Petra Azíos, we inherited a truly invaluable gift from them- the legacy of a continual pursuit of education throughout our lives. By their example and through their life lessons, they taught us that through academic endeavors, experiences in our lifework, extensive reading, and broad travel we can reach our goals and enrich our lives as individuals, as well as advance the community in which we live. Our fathers and grandfathers were the six sons of José María and Petra: Leopoldo, Roberto, Hector, Enrique, Benjamin, and Arnulfo. They continued the family legacy and lived to see their children and grandchildren earn college and graduate degrees, enjoy successful careers, and travel throughout the world. Today, as their descendants, we honor those who have gone before us with such foresight, strength, and unfailing love for their family by continuing their legacy of lifelong learning.
