Firefighters Helping Firefighters

Firefighters Helping Firefighters Official page for Firefighters Helping Firefighters, a Houston-based organization that provides support to Active Houston Firefighter community.

"We Take Care of Our Own"! May 31st, 2013 was the most devastating and deadly in Houston Fire Department history where a 5-alarm motel fire claimed the lives of four Houston firefighters and injured others. This horrific event was the catalyst for several firefighters who wanted to create an organization dedicated to helping other firefighters in need. Firefighters Helping Firefighters has been ab

le to help 20+ firefighters since its inception last year. We provide financial assistance to critically injured or sick firefighters and their families who are burdened with extensive hospital or treatment medical expenses and funeral costs.

Rest in Eternal Peace Sister and Brothers

Thirteen years ago today, May 31, 2013, the Houston Fire Department experienced its darkest day.

A five-alarm fire at the Southwest Inn on the Southwest Freeway brought crews from Stations 51 and 68 to what would become the deadliest incident in HFD history. As firefighters worked to search and suppress the blaze, the roof collapsed, trapping crews inside.

Four firefighters were killed that day. A fifth, Captain William "Iron Bill" Dowling, lost both legs in the fire and passed away in 2017 from complications related to his injuries.

We remember Captain Matthew Renaud, Engineer Operator Robert Bebee, Firefighter Robert Garner, Probationary Firefighter Anne Sullivan, and Captain William "Iron Bill" Dowling.

They sacrificed everything. We will never forget.

Make the Best out of the Best Job in the World 🌎🌎🌎

92 new Houston firefighter cadets graduated today.

Among them: Brayden Arnold, the son of Jesse Arnold, who died in the line of duty from occupational cancer in 2023.

As the class bowed their heads in prayer, Brayden’s mother sat in the front row, watching her son step forward to carry on his father’s calling.

Moments like this remind us that the fire service is more than a job.
It is legacy.
It is sacrifice.
It is family.

Welcome to the brotherhood and sisterhood. 🔥
