We loaded out 600 boxes of books this morning for Belize. In that gorgeous country, we work with the National Library and Tek Time Fi Read, a local pro-literacy project. Thanks always to our supporters and neighbor-Houston Bag & Burlap for helping load out.

We're now working on a shipment to Mali! Good friends we've worked on shipping books to Tanzania with, in the past, approached us yesterday. It'll only be a couple of thousand books to start, but it is something I've dreamed of ever since reading The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu: And Their Race to Save the World's Most Precious Manuscripts. There are so many fascinating places that could use books and both providing and receiving them is a very enriching experience. Come join us.

“Let there be light”-Books for Development’s warehouse got our lights fixed this week. The perfect antidote to a dreary weather week and all the better for sorting and sending books to children in the developing world. Come visit us this Saturday at 9 to noon. We’re finishing shipments to Belize and Botswana.

This past Saturday was QUIETLY MAGIC at the warehouse. We had, all at the same time: a gentleman from Ghana picking out books he will privately send back to help a library in his country; a board member gathering books to pass out to disadvantaged folks in the Appalachian region; books being boxed for shipment to partners we work with in Belize to promote literacy; and a series of book boxes being created to promote children's interest in healthcare careers in Botswana. Why not join us to promote literacy all across the world? Your heart, mind and body will love the exercise.

One of the things that keeps us always hunting for more good books is the knowledge that we work with children who are REALLY interested in reading books. (This is from The Library of the African Nile in Pakwach, Uganda last week). YOU could sort enough books in an hour to keep this crowd enthralled for days. Or, you can watch all the happy news or spectacular TV.

It is always nice to see and think about the stories and the reading that goes on at the Library of the African Nile in Pakwach, Uganda. Established in 2023, this library is a major regional resource for young and older students. Thanks to everyone who has helped it continue this work.

Due to the anticipated inclement weather on Saturday (January 24), we won’t be sorting. We apologize for the inconvenience, however, it’s too cold to get really going on sorting and we don’t want folks unnecessarily driving. Hopefully, the following Saturday-watch, it’ll be in the eighties.

On Saturday, we were honored to host the Student Community Ambassadors from the Woodlands. This was a remarkable group that got soooo many books sorted and boxed. Hoping to do more with this and other student groups across the Greater Houston Area.
