Latitude 49

Latitude 49 is a dynamic new music ensemble, pushing boundaries and creating unique and charismatic performances for diverse audiences.

Inspired by the 49th parallel that forms the western part of the Canada-United States border, musicians hail from each country, creating a cohesive mixed chamber ensemble while still emphasizing a unique and individual sound. Comprised of Jani Parsons (piano), Timothy Steeves (violin), Andy Hall (saxophones), Max Geissler (cello), Andy Hudson (clarinets), and Chris Sies (percussion), Latitude 49 supports the creation of new art through commissioning, performance, education, and audience enrichment.

🎉 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT 🎉

We’re beyond excited to unveil Sound Atlas Festival 2026 — happening June 26–28 at Contemporary Calgary! 🎶✨

This year’s theme:🌌 Realms of Influence 🌌

Influence is a resonance — sometimes audible, sometimes ghostlike — passing between bodies, disciplines, and ideas. In these realms, sound becomes a meeting place of past and present, shaped by who listens, who remembers, and who responds.

Over three days, we’ll explore these shifting sonic spaces through bold performances, immersive experiences, and powerful collaborations.

Our Latitude 49 musicians take centre stage throughout the week with performances by Andy Hall, Andy Hudson, Jani Parsons, Max Geissler, Timothy Steeves and Chris Sies! Tim is also presenting a solo set and Jani will be featured with Kensington Sinfonia! We are especially pleased to present the world premiere of Tidal Forces by Kevin Day and other works throughout the week as our 2026 featured composer!

Big news!!! 🎉 We are beyond thrilled to share that we have been selected as the ensemble-in-residence for the 2026 Composers + Musicians Collaborative Residency! 🙌

Over ten days, we’ll be working intimately with six composers in the field of new music. We’ll be workshopping their pieces, taking artistic risks together, and culminating in a New York premiere at the iconic Merkin Hall. ✨

But it doesn’t stop there. We’ve committed to programming and performing all six new works across our next two concert seasons, because new music deserves to be heard more than once. We can’t wait to dig in. 🎶

Know a composer who should be in the room? Tag them below! 👇
