Houston's second public park, opened in Woodland Heights in 1903 . It was developed by the Houston Electric Company, a private company which controlled Houston's streetcar system, to encourage ridership on its new extension up Houston Avenue. The park boasted its own man-made lake created by damming Little White Oak Bayou, sometimes called Hollywood Bayou.
Today, the area is known as Woodland Park.
