nter. In 1983 George’s younger brother Roy Foreman had the idea to start a Youth Center to teach Young kids how to box. Being that he was done with boxing, George donated his equipment to the new facility and when he wasn’t preaching, George donated his time toward helping kids learn the sport of Boxing. It was at this time he developed his new boxing motto "Never a punch in anger." After a short period of time George began to see the giant need for a safe constructive environment to keep kids out of trouble. By 1986 George was out of money but still needed a way to support the George Foreman Youth Center (GFYC). “One day something profound happened to me…” says George “I went broke!”
Because all he knew was boxing, George decided the best way to support the GFYC was to return to the ring and regain the Heavyweight Championship of the World. With the George Foreman Youth Center as his main motivation, nothing could stop George from achieving his goal; not even Age! At the age of 45, George Foreman defeated Michael Moorer to become the oldest man ever to win the Heavyweight Championship of the world; Furthermore, Over 35 years later the George Foreman Youth Center still stands as a shining star to the community of Houston, Texas.
“Longevity is the most important goal!” says George. “Many community centers have been built and a few years later shut down; however, the goal of our Youth Center, above all else, is to continue to be here for the community.”
