🎭 A Visit Houston Signature Experience for the Soul

“From Plantation to Emancipation”
Travel back in time during this 90-minute experience. Stepping into The Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park, you embark on a unique journey through history. Tour three (3) historic houses that tell Houston's stories from plantation to emancipation that are UNESCO Sites of Memory through the “Routes of Enslaved Peoples Project.” See and listen to a talented actress Kijana Wiseman who brings to life the hardships of slavery and the victory of freedom through song and theatrics. Where else can you hear the stories drawn from a script penned by Martha Whiting-Goddard, a descendant of Reverend Jack Yates, who once lived in one of the houses you explore? Tickets: www.heritage society.org.

Today, we said goodbye to one of the quiet souls who made The Heritage Society feel like home. Our beautiful Siamese cat, Lady, who graced our grounds for 15 wonderful years, was laid to rest after a year long battle with illness.
She was the second friendliest cat you could ever hope to meet—always curious, always gentle, always ready to greet staff, volunteers, and visitors with her soft presence. And those striking blue eyes… they stopped people in their tracks. She had a way of looking at you that felt like a conversation. She knew her name and nick name and was friendly with guests.
For a decade and a half, she watched over our historic homes, curled up in sunny windows, supervised tours from a distance, and became part of the daily rhythm of the Connally Plaza. She wasn’t just a cat; she was part of our story.
As we honor her life, we are also working to cover the medical and care expenses from her final year. If you feel moved to help, we welcome donations in her memory. Your support ensures we can continue caring for the animals who call our grounds home.
You may donate to support Her Legacy and help with the vet bills by contacting us at [email protected].
Thank you for loving her with us. May her gentle spirit rest in peace.
