Funding and Volunteering- A Beautiful Opportunity to Serve…

A few months ago, Youth Development Center received the exciting news that we were awarded a $100,000 grant to recreate the center’s garden and outdoor space to serve our students and the community better. This exciting news came from the amazing team at Power Home Remodeling. Not only did this awesome company grant us a dream opportunity, but they immediately asked when their leadership and employees could come out to volunteer.

On Tuesday, under the expert guidance of the Houston ToolBank, Power Home Remodeling came to YDC’s campus to build raised flower beds, which will serve as the foundation for our new garden. This was a wonderful experience, and our students and teachers are excited to see progress in recreating an outdoor learning space.

Last week, Youth Development Center Houston and Houston Independent School District partnered to hand out backpacks and school supplies to students and their families. Gratitude to all of our volunteers and donors who showed up despite the heat to support families in Northeast Houston: Doug Kelly, Laura Kelly and Friends, Bethel's Global Ministry, and Jeffrey King Kawasaki Peck of W.E.B. Du Bois Legacy Foundation.

We look forward to welcoming Youth Development Center Houston students back to the center on August 24th for the beginning of our after-school program and hope that all of our students, their families, teachers, and educational staff have a wonderful Back-to-School season!
