Sunday League Spring SZN25 Champs!

What a fun and wild first league here. Great memories, amazing camaraderie and some great Pickelball. Thanks for all the patience and grace with the mid season venue change, and huge thank you to for making room for our crew!

Can’t wait for Sunday summer league in a couple of weeks!

Many of you already know, but with the move and all the necessary internal communication done, we just wanted to share the update here …

May 11th, 2025, was our last day of operations at what we had hoped would be our first permanent location here in Houston.

Here’s what happened and what is coming next for us …

When we stepped into 2955 Gulf Fwy, we believed it would be a viable long-term home for our vision. Despite our plans to move from a pop-up to a permanent location here, we discovered serious and unresolved landlord-related issues with the building. These included things like unpermitted and non-operating fire safety systems, default, and missing building approvals that prevented us from operating fully or legally. And they would continue to impact us without a promised and guaranteed timeline. These issues are not minor; they are foundational for us as a business.

We’ve always said we don’t talk badly about people or places and will stay true to that here. But with that said, these are facts, not emotional or subjective statements. After spending weeks trying to find a resolution, staying current on rent, and negotiating reasonable terms to allow us to stay, we were left with a choice: compromise our standards and values or step away from the wrong partnership and building.

We chose to walk away, not out of failure, but out of integrity. We want to be very clear about something.

We are not quitting. We are adjusting.

We’re already working on permanent locations that reflect the whole vision.

Society Yards was born in our hearts. It was first built at 2955, but it is bigger than either of those things now.

These doors closed, but the backyard spirit still lives on in all of us no matter where we are. Thank you for all of your support!

Meet Rhian, owner and founder of coffee popup here in Houston. She is one of a few coffee popups you’ve experienced here at Society Yards and we thought it would be fun for you all to get to her beyond her coffee.

Of course, we have to ask about some of her coffee too.

Here’s a quick glance at Rhian:

What’s your favorite drink you’re making right now?

“Abuelita Hot Chocolate Latte. On a chilly, sunny &!beeezy day; hot chocolate hits the spot — and you still get the kick with the caffeine.”

What pickleball paddle are you playing with right now?

“I’m using the invader. I just like the brand because they take pickleball seriously yet they have an irreverent personality and approach that is appealing. I also like the elongated handle because it helps give me more control.”

What is something unique no one would ever suspect about you?

“I’m in a daily online trivia league.”

Okay, now you know who you want on your team for Trivial Pursuit.

Rhian is an absolute joy to have around and we are so grateful she keeps choosing to show up and be a part of the community here. Send her some love in the comments and give her a follow!

Weekend mode is officially activated here ar the Yards.

onsite all day Saturday serving pizzas and drinks (NO BYOB).

Sunday it’s a DJ set with (10am-1pm) and coffee popup with (10am -3pm) (BYOB/food)

Sunday afternoon, Little Legends junior pickleball class at 1pm & 2pm

Open plays throughout the days and private court reservations always available for your crew.
