Our President, Jonathan M. D. Yanzee , proudly represented Higher Africa Institute at the official launch of the 2026 Liberia National Inter-University Debate Championship, where he served as a panelist on the timely and important topic:

"Closing the Gender Gap: Strategies for Achieving Equal Representation in Leadership."

During the discussion, President Yanzee offered a thought-provoking perspective by tracing the historical roots of gender disparities through an African lens while examining present-day realities, data, and the challenges that continue to hinder equal representation.

He emphasized that achieving equal representation requires intentional action grounded in gender equality and equity. He also stressed that men and women must see one another as partners in progress. According to him, closing the gender gap demands not only stronger policies and collective action but also a transformation of mindsets and the dismantling of harmful patriarchal systems that limit opportunities for all.

📖 Learning is most meaningful when it challenges how we see the world 🌍.

Our participants in the Professional Executive Certificate in International Relations and Diplomacy are doing exactly that.

Over the past few weeks, they have explored the foundations of international relations, examined the principles of sovereignty and national interest, discussed globalization and interdependence, and analyzed the roles of states, international organizations, NGOs, multinational corporations, and other global actors in shaping today's world.

The room has also been alive with thought-provoking discussions on major international issues such as climate change, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, migration, food security, global conflicts, and the evolving dynamics of diplomacy.

This week, participants took an even deeper dive into the major theories of International Relations—Realism, Liberalism, and Constructivism—developing a stronger understanding of why nations cooperate, compete, negotiate, and sometimes come into conflict.

At Higher Africa Institute, we believe diplomacy is more than protocol. It is about critical thinking, informed leadership, effective negotiation, and preparing professionals to engage confidently in an increasingly interconnected world.

We are proud of the commitment, curiosity, and active participation demonstrated by every participant. The conversations, debates, and shared experiences continue to make each session impactful.

The journey continues, and we look forward to equipping more leaders with the knowledge and practical skills needed to navigate global affairs.
