🇱🇷🤝🇮🇳 FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE EMBASSY: A JOURNEY INTO DIPLOMACY

After five weeks of intensive learning in the International Relations and Diplomacy Professional Certificate Programme at the Higher Africa Institute, our students stepped beyond the classroom and into the world of diplomacy.

On 3 September 2026, students of the programme were welcomed by the Embassy of India in Monrovia for a special Youth Outreach Programme, “India Connect: Liberian Youth @ Embassy.”

The study tour provided our students with a firsthand opportunity to understand how diplomacy works beyond textbooks and lectures—and how nations build lasting relationships through dialogue, cooperation, culture, education, trade and people-to-people connections.

🇮🇳 The students received an engaging overview of the Embassy’s role in strengthening India–Liberia diplomatic, economic and cultural relations, followed by an interactive discussion covering:

🎓 Education & study opportunities
✈️ Tourism and cultural exchange
💼 Business and economic cooperation
🤝 Diplomatic relations and partnerships
🌍 Opportunities for young people to connect globally

For us at Higher Africa Institute, this experience represents exactly what we seek to achieve: connecting learning with real-world experience and preparing a new generation of African professionals to understand, engage and contribute to international affairs.

The experience was made even more meaningful as our students celebrated the completion of their professional certificate journey—transforming five weeks of classroom learning into an opportunity to engage directly with the diplomatic community.

A classroom can teach diplomacy.
But experiencing diplomacy brings the lesson to life.

🤝 Strengthening Partnerships for a Better Liberia 🇱🇷

The President of Higher Africa Institute (HAI) recently held a strategic partnership meeting with Global Agribusiness Solutions (GAS USA 🇺🇸 & Liberia 🇱🇷) and Liberty Communication Company, with the participation of Dr. David White and Dr. Anthony T. Woart, Chief Executives of both institutions.

The engagement focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in key areas including research, agriculture, and internet accessibility. Discussions highlighted both the challenges and opportunities in empowering Liberian farmers to address food insecurity while also bridging the significant digital divide through accessible and affordable internet services across the country.

As a livelihood, learning and innovation institution, Higher Africa Institute recognizes that sustainable development requires strong partnerships, knowledge sharing, and practical solutions. Through this collaboration, HAI will leverage its training capacity to support GAS and Liberty Communication Company with research, educational and capacity-building opportunities while creating pathways for economic empowerment and inclusive growth.

Together, we are committed to building partnerships that strengthen agriculture, expand digital access, and create opportunities for Liberians.

Our President, Jonathan M. D. Yanzee , proudly represented Higher Africa Institute at the official launch of the 2026 Liberia National Inter-University Debate Championship, where he served as a panelist on the timely and important topic:

"Closing the Gender Gap: Strategies for Achieving Equal Representation in Leadership."

During the discussion, President Yanzee offered a thought-provoking perspective by tracing the historical roots of gender disparities through an African lens while examining present-day realities, data, and the challenges that continue to hinder equal representation.

He emphasized that achieving equal representation requires intentional action grounded in gender equality and equity. He also stressed that men and women must see one another as partners in progress. According to him, closing the gender gap demands not only stronger policies and collective action but also a transformation of mindsets and the dismantling of harmful patriarchal systems that limit opportunities for all.

At Higher Africa Institute, we remain committed to promoting inclusive leadership, meaningful dialogue, and a future where everyone has an equal opportunity to lead and thrive.

📖 Learning is most meaningful when it challenges how we see the world 🌍.

Our participants in the Professional Executive Certificate in International Relations and Diplomacy are doing exactly that.

Over the past few weeks, they have explored the foundations of international relations, examined the principles of sovereignty and national interest, discussed globalization and interdependence, and analyzed the roles of states, international organizations, NGOs, multinational corporations, and other global actors in shaping today's world.

The room has also been alive with thought-provoking discussions on major international issues such as climate change, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, migration, food security, global conflicts, and the evolving dynamics of diplomacy.

This week, participants took an even deeper dive into the major theories of International Relations—Realism, Liberalism, and Constructivism—developing a stronger understanding of why nations cooperate, compete, negotiate, and sometimes come into conflict.

At Higher Africa Institute, we believe diplomacy is more than protocol. It is about critical thinking, informed leadership, effective negotiation, and preparing professionals to engage confidently in an increasingly interconnected world.

We are proud of the commitment, curiosity, and active participation demonstrated by every participant. The conversations, debates, and shared experiences continue to make each session impactful.

The journey continues, and we look forward to equipping more leaders with the knowledge and practical skills needed to navigate global affairs.
