Today we are honoring and remembering a milestone for American freedom.

“The Emancipation Proclamation was originally issued on January 1, 1863, as the nation approached the third year of the Civil War. Lincoln's proclamation, which declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free”…

The freedom promised in the Emancipation Proclamation was finally delivered to 250,000 people who remained enslaved in Texas two and a half years after President Lincoln’s historic proclamation and two months after Union victory in the Civil War.”

The last general Houston ISD Board of Managers meeting of the school year just started. The Board Agenda is over 300 pages long, filled with even more policy changes.

Last month, the HISD Board of Managers were scheduled to vote on Mike Miles' application to request another waiver to continue as superintendent. The Board of Managers postponed the vote.

The vote on the Recommended Budget, and the Discussion to Discuss Budget and Proposed Tax Rate will not happen tonight. Another special meeting has been scheduled for June 25, 2026, where these items should be discussed.

The Pride Parade has been canceled. Thank you so much to everyone who planned on attending. We will pass along any updates we receive. Have a great weekend and Happy Pride!

• • • IMPORTANT PRIDE UPDATE • • •

With heavy hearts, and out of concern for the safety of our community, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2026 Pride Houston 365 Parade due to severe weather and flooding conditions.

The safety of our attendees, participants, volunteers, and staff must come first.

The Pride Houston 365 Festival will remain open until 7 PM at Houston City Hall, and we welcome everyone who can safely attend to join us in celebrating our community.

We have spoken with the Mayor’s Office and have strong support from the community and state representatives as we explore options to reschedule the parade. A roundtable discussion will be held with stakeholders to review potential dates between July 19 and October 31. We will keep our community updated as plans develop.

Thank you for your understanding, support, and continued Pride. Please stay safe and take care of one another.

The last day of school for students brings mixed emotions across Houston ISD. We’re proud of our students and everything they accomplished this year. But our hearts are also with the students, families, and educators who said goodbye to their neighborhood schools for the last time due to campus closures.
