As the hurricane season approaches our friends at Reliant Energy would like to remind you to bring loose, lightweight objects inside that could become projectiles in high winds (e.g., patio furniture, garbage cans); anchor objects that would be unsafe to bring inside (e.g., propane tanks); and take some time to trim or remove trees close enough to fall on the building.

We are so excited that our friend, Jill Boullion, former Executive Director of Greens Bayou Coalition, received the Environmental Impact Award at the NHA Awards Luncheon last week! She has done amazing work at Bayou Land Conservancy and before that, here at GBC. We're so proud of her. Congratulation, Jill!

Rainy weather is expected today, making this a good reminder to prepare before conditions worsen.

The Flood Control District encourages residents to sign up for Flood Warning System alerts to receive timely weather and flood notifications directly to their devices.

Preparedness starts before the storm arrives.

Paddling for a Cleaner Greens Bayou! 🌊🛶

On May 16, 23 dedicated paddlers launched from Thomas Bell Foster Park with one goal: a Trash Free Gulf, starting right here on Greens Bayou. Volunteers from Houston Canoe Club, Houston Pollution Control Services, Walter P Moore, Raba Kistner, Aldine ISD and more joined forces to remove debris and protect our waterway. Small actions + community spirit = big impact.

On Saturday, GBC celebrated the Grand Opening of the lake at John Paul Landing in Cypress to non-motorized boating! We are excited to collaborate with Office of Commissioner Lesley Briones, Precinct 4 on letting people know about this great new place to be on the water and spend time in nature. Go check it out! Carol participated in the Paddle Parade around the shoreline, while I shared information about our upcoming on-the-water cleanup on May 16 and October Regatta! It was a great day on the water!
