Celebrating Unity and Resilience: Art's Healing Power in Turbulent Times ππ¨
Yesterday afternoon and last night, our Be the Peace Be the Hope team and I held art classes on the theme of community for our Afghan students.
I chose to use the symbol of a forest of trees to illustrate the idea of a community where individuals support each other, sharing the research that demonstrates how trees communicate and provide mutual support through their intricate network of roots and fungi.
During the classes, the children had the opportunity to create their own unique trees using the Zentangle technique.
In this creative environment, they shared their affection for the diverse countries represented in the room, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Venezuela, Syria, and France. They also expressed their sadness concerning the recent earthquake in Afghanistan and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Yet, amidst these challenges, they found solace and hope in art, which brought them a sense of peace. They spoke about their aspirations for the flowers and trees they had created, hoping that they would thrive and grow, symbolizing their own resilience.
Throughout these classes, there was an exchange of love and understanding between us and the students. It was a truly beautiful and peaceful moment, providing a much-needed break during these turbulent times we all face on our planet.
Thank you Flore Thevoux for supporting us with your artistic talents, and helping me with the facilitation. Heartfelt thanks for our awesome team, including Cynthia Joelle, Diana Vasquez, Amjad Anwar and Abdul Wesal for your commitment to our students' cause!
