Chum Kiu is the second of three forms/sets of Wing Chun. In order to begin the second set, the legs and knees must be trained via the first set to be able to put the body weight on one leg. Once the proper body structure from Siu Nim Tao (first set) is trained, the student can then learn how to move that structure by turning and stepping.

Here is an image of our students practicing Chum Kiu.

In the 6 months since the pandemic began, we pressed pause in our regular Wing Chun classes and group practice. But with the misfortune came a silver lining. Sifu Ken begun to experiment with remote teaching via Zoom. While not in any way a replacement for in-person classes, it was a surprisingly good substitute for the time being. The bonus here being we now see Sifu Ken weekly!

Sifu Ken has long emphasized on the importance of Wing Chun sets and position training, so he came up with the theme “Revisiting Wing Chun sets” for our Zoom sessions. So for the past 6 months, we have been privileged to have Sifu Ken help us channel our newfound solitary time toward deepening our understanding of Wing Chun positions and sets. And for that, we want to say Thank you, Sifu Ken.
