Here’s some genuinely uplifting news. Children’s hospitals across America are increasingly turning to specially trained “facility dogs” to help young patients cope with fear, pain, and the stress of long hospital stays. Unlike ordinary therapy dogs, these animals are full-time working members of hospital staff trained to assist children during medical procedures, recovery, and rehabilitation.
Researchers say even brief interactions with the dogs can reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, and help children feel more comfortable in what can otherwise be a frightening environment.
