Society of Professional Women in Petroleum, Houston The Society of Professional Women in Petroleum was formed in early 1981 to support professional career women in the Petroleum Industry.

SPWP is dedicated to furthering the careers of women in the Oil & Gas Industry and as part of our mission, we have a merit-based scholarship program that provides financial assistance to female Houston-area high school seniors entering a Texas college. Our annual fundraisers on behalf of this program are made possible through the tremendous support of companies within the industry, as well as thro

ugh the tireless dedication of our members. Fundraising initiatives to date have included crawfish boils, barbecues, golf tournaments, and casino nights. Through monthly breakfast meetings and special seminars, SPWP covers all aspects of drilling and production operations and constantly seeks to further expand these parameters of knowledge. Much of this is achieved through the tremendous support of the companies and the individuals who appreciate SPWPs serious dedication and share this technology and information. SPWP’s membership consists of women who have active careers in oil related fields, such as Engineering, Geology Sales, Research, Finance, Law, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Advertising and Marketing. Memberships are available through sponsorship. SPWP provides scholarships to Houston-area high school seniors entering a Texas college. This scholarship promotes young women in need of financial aid. Our scholarship fund is a direct result of our member's dedication to promoting education. The Houston petroleum industry and SPWP membership support our fund raisers. Our fundraisers to date have included crawfish boils, barbecues, golf tournaments and casino nights.

Receive monthly newsletters of scheduled activities and members-on-the-move. Increase each members individual employers exposure by representing the company in SPWP. Enhance technical knowledge in all areas of the petroleum industry through various education programs offered to our organization. How to Become a Member: Attend two (2) regular meetings within a 6 month period. Submit an application for membership. Be sponsored by an active member in good standing. Affiliations: American Association Drilling Engineers (AADE), American petroleum Institute (API), Federation of Houston Professional Women (FHPW), International Associateion of Drilling Contractors (IADC), Offshore Energy Center (OEC).

Our Story

The Society of Professional Women in Petroleum was formed in early 1981 to support professional career women in the Petroleum Industry, through networking, education, and the distribution of technology and information. SPWP is incorporated as a non-profit organization.

All aspects of drilling and production operations are covered through topical monthly breakfast meetings and industry speakers, and we constantly seek to further expand the knowledge of our members. We also feature professional development speakers and hold roundtable discussions on a rotating basis.

SPWP’s membership consists of women who have active careers in the Oil & Gas Industry in fields including Engineering, Geology, Sales, Research, Finance, Law, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Advertising, and Marketing.
