We’re creating a collective portrait of home — built from the words shared by everyone who gives.

One gift. One word. Your meaning of home.

Next Tuesday, you choose your word and add your voice.

is one week away.

This year, we’re building a collective portrait of home — made from the words shared by everyone who gives.

One gift.
One word.
One picture of what home truly means.

Your word + your gift = part of the story refugees are rebuilding for themselves.

Next Tuesday, you’ll choose your word.
Family. Safety. Belonging. Comfort.
Or something all your own.

A week from today, you add your voice.

Design School. Brick Mold Lending. Model Village.

Because of you, each became reality.
Grateful this season for a community that turns design into action.

Last night before bed, I did what I always do—checked the locks, closed the blinds, turned on the porch light.

It’s a tiny ritual, but it means something big now that I’m a dad.

My son Walt just turned one. This year has been a blur of love, exhaustion, and joy. And lately, I’ve been thinking: what would it be like if I had no way to keep him safe?

In Nakivale Refugee Settlement, 80% of the people we serve are women and children. The fathers? Many are still in the DRC—fighting, forced into labor, or gone.

They no longer have the agency to protect their families.

I can’t imagine lying awake at night, wondering if Walt is safe, and not being able to do anything about it.

To every dad who gets to check the locks, who knows where their kid is, who has the privilege of being the protector—Happy Father’s Day. What we have is a gift.

To the fathers far from home, unable to tuck their kids in or keep danger at bay—you are not forgotten. You are still a dad. Still fighting. We see you.

At Every Shelter, we’re working to restore agency and dignity by helping families build stronger homes—like through our brick mold lending program that’s gaining real traction.

Let’s keep going together.

Happy Father’s Day.

When we launched our brick mold lending program in Uganda’s Nakivale Refugee Settlement, our goal was simple: to provide newly arrived families with the tools to build a real home, without the crushing cost of brick mold rentals.

However what has happened in the months since has been anything but simple: it’s been powerful, inspiring and entirely refugee-led.

Comment “Powerful” and we’ll sent you the link to read the full story!

This Mother’s Day, give a gift in your mother’s name that gives shelter, strength, and dignity to another.

In refugee settlements across Uganda, women with children now make up 80% of new arrivals.

Congolese mothers who’ve fled conflict carry the weight of survival and the responsibility of rebuilding shelter, safety, and stability for their children. With little more than what they can hold, they carry their families-and their future.

At Every Shelter, we believe no mother should have to do that alone.

Give a gift in honor of your mother-a woman who helped shape your world, to help another mother shape hers from the ground up.

We’ve had an incredible week with our Why We Flee Series. Last night’s panel shed light on the challenges within the refugee aid system—but also the hope that persists. We heard powerful insights and heartfelt stories from two men who fled the Congo, found refuge in Uganda, and have now resettled here in Houston. It was an honor to learn from their lived experiences.

Thank you to everyone who has come out and supported this series so far. There’s still time to visit our photo exhibition, An Endless War by , open for one more week—daily from 10 AM to 2 PM at 5600 Navigation Blvd, Houston, TX.

Your support means so much to us! Thank you to everyone who has donated and visited us at our exhibit in the East End!

We are trying to raise $500,000 to support our work in Uganda working alongside refugee led groups to meet the overwhelming needs of refugees fleeing war in the DRC, many of them women and children. It’s easy to look away but there are real ways we can help. Ways that give dignity and opportunity. Please join us!
