Meet Fatima, our latest Adopt-a-Patient recipient💜
Fatima is a hard working, joyful, family woman. Her main focus in life was to show up for her children and grandchildren, that is until she encountered an obstacle she never expected
In December 2025, Fatima’s life changed when she was diagnosed with StageIIIB high-grade soft tissue sarcoma in her right thigh. She completed radiation treatments and underwent major surgery in March 2026 to remove the tumor, hoping she was leaving the most difficult part behind her. Unfortunately, just a few months later, she learned the cancer had spread to her lungs and their lining, meaning her fight was far from over. She is now living with metastatic soft tissue sarcoma and undergoing chemotherapy at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Between treatments, appointments, and side effects, Fatima has had to severely reduce her work schedule, and while her partner works hard to try to support their living expenses, the financial burden of cancer treatment has put a huge weight on their shoulders. In spite of the financial and physical challenges of cancer, she continues working as much as she is able to and tries to remain present for her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Fatima refuses to let her diagnoses rule her life, and chooses to find joy wherever possible. “Cancer has taught me to appreciate time, family, small moments of joy, and the kindness of others in a completely different way. I try to focus on living my life while going through treatment rather than allowing cancer to become my entire identity.” Her drive, tenacity, and positive attitude are inspiring.
