When Christie read "Home In A Lunchbox" by Cherry Mo to her kindergarten class this January, a five-year-old raised her hand and said Jun, the girl in the book, was showing perseverance.

"It's when you keep working at something even if it is hard," another kid explained. Then every class that week did the same.

Every month, students focus on a single character trait such as respect, empathy, perseverance, courage, and books are central to how they learn each trait. This project stocks the shelves with the stories that make those lessons stick. Donate today to help reach our $2,000 goal!

Meet Christie Masinick — Hillandale Elementary's Media Coordinator, and a Hillandale alum.

In 2019 she came back to her elementary school with a vision to modernize its library. Since then she's weeded thousands of aged books and rebuilt the collection nearly from scratch. Now she's building the next chapter — books that help her students build character.
