Today we celebrate National Manufacturing Day!

The first Friday of October marks National Manufacturing Day. It is a day created to celebrate and demonstrate modern manufacturing careers available today.

National Manufacturing Day empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges so they can help their communities and future generations thrive.

As experts predict 4.6 million manufacturing jobs will need to be filled in the U.S. in the next 10 years, it's timely as ever to raise awareness of the vast opportunities available in a manufacturing career.

The Latest Measures in Industrial Cyber Security

Cyber security is a pressing concern for manufacturers. According to the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA)’s 2020 threat landscape report, there are 203,000 new strains of malware created every day and, on average, it takes companies a worrying six months to detect a data breach. To solve this issue, industry and academia must work together, which is exactly what’s happening at the Christian Doppler Laboratory on Security and Quality Improvement in the Production Systems Life Cycle (CDL SQI) in Vienna, Austria. In this article, Reinhard Mayr, Head of Information Security and Research Operations at COPA-DATA explains what the latest security research means for manufacturers.

Intel is pledging to introduce a faster generation of processors every year through 2025 by embracing new technology that enables smaller and smaller transistors and so more powerful chips.

By 2024, the transistors will be so small they will no longer be measured in nanometers as they are today, but in angstroms, which are a tenth as big, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced this week. And the chips built around the transistors will be primarily defined by how much they improve in performance per watt over the prior generation.

New names come with new descriptions and new manufacturing processes as the old nanometer measure is left behind.

A new report from Nozomi Networks Labs finds cyber threats growing at an alarming rate in the first half of 2021. Attacks are driven largely by the emergence of Ransomware as a Service (RaaS) gangs that are cashing in on critical infrastructure organizations. Analysis of rising ICS vulnerabilities found critical manufacturing was the most susceptible industry, while a deep dive into IoT security cameras highlights how quickly the attack surface is expanding.

AUSTIN (Nexstar) — America needs to think differently when it comes to boosting manufacturing of semiconductor chips, according to one Texas senator. These chips are found in appliances, phones, cars and other technology, including some of the U.S.’ most advanced weapons systems at the Pentagon. The issue is that these chips are mainly produced overseas, in nations such as China, and the supply chain can be easily disrupted.

In response to this threat, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) is pushing for a House passage of the CHIPS for America Act, which would incentivize U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, research and development and supply chain security. The incentivization would come through a major refundable tax credit which would cover up to 40% of the manufacturer’s upfront cost
