The World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP) connects leading energy cities on all continents that are committed to fostering the transition to a more sustainable energy future. WECP cities are home to many of the world’s largest energy companies which are leading initiatives to build a lower carbon energy future, developing the full range of energy sources to power the world today and into tomorrow

Aberdeen has long played an important role in the UK’s energy sector. Now, that role is taking on a new dimension.

Fit out works have begun at Marischal Square, which will become the headquarters of Great British Energy. The location reflects Aberdeen’s strong energy heritage, its established supply chain and its growing role in the development of cleaner energy solutions.

Exciting news from our member city Groningen, where Power2X has taken final investment decision on the Djewels green hydrogen project in Delfzijl.

The 20 MW facility is expected to produce around 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, with operations targeted for mid 2028.

Another strong example of how WECP member cities are helping turn energy ambition into real projects.

Aberdeen continues to strengthen its position as a global energy transition hub.

The Net Zero Technology Centre is reopening a major technology testing hub at Aberdeen Energy Park, creating a world class facility for offshore energy innovation, decommissioning, geothermal, and carbon capture technologies.

This investment will help accelerate testing, scaling, and deployment of new energy solutions while supporting jobs, innovation, and international collaboration across the sector.
