Vision
For the drilling industry to be recognized for its vital role in enabling the global economy and its high standards of safety, environmental stewardship and operational efficiency. About IADC
Since 1940, the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) has exclusively represented the worldwide oil and gas drilling industry. Membership is open to any company involved in oil and g

as exploration, drilling or production, well servicing, oilfield manufacturing or other rig-site services. IADC Membership
IADC’s contract-drilling members own most of the world’s land and offshore drilling units that drill the vast majority of the wells producing the planet’s oil and gas. IADC’s membership also includes oil-and-gas producers, and manufacturers and suppliers of oilfield equipment and services. Through conferences, training seminars, print and electronic publications, and a comprehensive network of technical publications, IADC continually fosters education and communication within the upstream petroleum industry.

Some lessons just hit different on an actual rig floor—ask the IADC PTI Chapter students who spent a day at Charlvon's D203 rig site in Emede, Delta State, Nigeria.

Students got a firsthand look at drilling operations in action, connecting classroom theory with the realities of the field. Highlights from the day included:

🔧 Mud Systems & Solids Control: tracing the path of drilling mud from the mud pits through the drill string into the formation, & touring equipment like the Shale Shaker, Desander, Desilter, Degasser, Poor Boy Degasser, & mud tanks

🛢️ Rig Components: an up-close intro to the derrick, draw works, rotary table, top drive, crown block, traveling block, swivel, drill string, & Blowout Preventer (BOP)

🦺 Safety First: strong emphasis throughout on proper PPE use, hazard awareness, & strict safety protocols

The result: an eye-opening, inspiring day that deepened students' understanding of drilling engineering & oilfield operations.

A heartfelt thank-you to Charlvon Limited for the warm hospitality and the valuable knowledge shared by their on-site professionals. Experiences like this are exactly what IADC Student Chapters are all about...bridging the gap between the classroom and the rig floor👏

Amazing things can happen when students step outside the classroom! 🎓🔧

We're proud to share that the IADC Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS Student Chapter recently organized an industrial visit to Solar Alert, a global wellhead solutions provider in the oil and gas industry—and it was a fantastic experience for everyone involved.

30 petroleum engineering students got up-close with the real world of wellhead systems, walking away with hands-on knowledge across:

• Surface wellheads, tree components, and gate valves
• Engineering design considerations like pressure containment, material selection, and equipment reliability
• The full manufacturing workflow—from machining and assembly to quality control and field-readiness
• HSE practices that keep operations safe and efficient every day

The warehouse tour was a definite highlight, giving students a firsthand look at equipment handling and manufacturing activities in a live industrial setting. Exactly the kind of experience that turns textbook knowledge into real-world understanding💡

A big thank you to the team at Solar Alert for opening their doors and investing in the next generation of petroleum engineers.

We're proud to share that the Well Control section of the comprehensive IADC Geothermal Well Drilling Guideline has been finalized—a significant milestone in a project years in the making.

Being developed by more than 20 experts across 10+ companies, this guideline is designed to bridge the gap between geothermal and oil & gas drilling practices and establish a common language across the industry. The Well Control section joins the Well Classification document (published March 2025) as the second completed deliverable, with three more sections expected in the coming months.

As Toney Deer, leader of the Well Control work group, put it: "It has been an absolute pleasure working with such a dedicated group of highly insightful people."

Both completed sections are available now via the IADC Geothermal Committee resources page: https://iadc.org/committees/geothermal/

The IADC North Sea Chapter recently took to the fairways at Banchory Golf Club in support of the British Heart Foundation — a nonprofit funding life-saving research into heart disease, stroke, and vascular dementia.

Representing IADC on the day were Stuart Clow (IADC), Stuart Sutherland (Odfjell Technologies), Bruce Boyle (Noble Drilling), and Lindsay Fraser (Stena Drilling).

Proud to see our North Sea Chapter showing up for such a worthy cause ⛳

What does it look like when industry actively gives back to the next generation? The IADC Supply Chain Committee showed us at the 1st session of its Emerging Talent series.

The session brought together 37 college students from 4 Houston-area universities for mock interviews, resume reviews, and one-on-one networking with industry professionals.

Drilling Contractor, Official Magazine of IADC, interviewed Supply Chain Committee Chair Isabela Bueno Louback, along with 3 of the participating students. In this clip, University of Houston-Downtown student Aaron Narcisse discusses his interest in the event. Check out the full interview here → https://drillingcontractor.org/iadc-supply-chain-committee-conducts-mock-job-interviews-for-houston-area-students-78208

Isabela summed up the spirit of the series, "That's what we are trying to do here—help them like somebody helped us in the past to get into the industry, get into an early job or internship, and be ready for the interview."

Full room. Full agenda. Real conversations that matter.

The IADC Southern Arabian Peninsula Chapter (SAPC) wrapped up a standout Q2 meeting at The Pavilion, Emirates Golf Club, and we couldn't be more proud of what the Chapter has built.

With World Mental Health Awareness Week as the focus, this quarter's gathering went beyond the usual industry updates. Members leaned into conversations about resilience, leadership, and workplace wellbeing—the kind of dialogue that strengthens not just our industry, but the people in it.

Speakers also brought fresh market perspectives to the room, rounding out a morning that was as informative as it was meaningful. Thank you to Laura Russell, Sophia Innocenti, Henry Dunn, Anna White, and Fernando Ortiz for the insightful presentations!

Special thanks, as well, to the day's Event Sponsor, Seven Insurance Brokers, & Coffee Break Sponsor, Esgian.

Chapters like the SAPC are at the heart of what IADC is about: bringing the industry together, keeping the important conversations going, and taking care of each other along the way. Well done to everyone involved 👏

No one can advocate for this industry better than the people who make it up. One of our biggest challenges is that many people hold outdated perceptions of drilling, and they don't *really* know who we are and what we do.

In his most recent editorial, 2026 IADC Chairman Roddie Mackenzie talks about how, as members of this great industry, it's our responsibility to change the narrative.

How, exactly, do we reintroduce people to the drilling industry we all know and love?

According to Roddie, "The answer is action, and IADC’s industry messaging campaign will provide us with the tools we need to get started. This campaign is aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of drilling in meeting global energy demand, and it’s an investment IADC is making on behalf of the entire industry."

→ The industry messaging campaign assets are available in the portal. We encourage members of our industry to use them far & wide: https://portal.iadc.org/
