Some lessons just hit different on an actual rig floor—ask the IADC PTI Chapter students who spent a day at Charlvon's D203 rig site in Emede, Delta State, Nigeria.
Students got a firsthand look at drilling operations in action, connecting classroom theory with the realities of the field. Highlights from the day included:
🔧 Mud Systems & Solids Control: tracing the path of drilling mud from the mud pits through the drill string into the formation, & touring equipment like the Shale Shaker, Desander, Desilter, Degasser, Poor Boy Degasser, & mud tanks
🛢️ Rig Components: an up-close intro to the derrick, draw works, rotary table, top drive, crown block, traveling block, swivel, drill string, & Blowout Preventer (BOP)
🦺 Safety First: strong emphasis throughout on proper PPE use, hazard awareness, & strict safety protocols
The result: an eye-opening, inspiring day that deepened students' understanding of drilling engineering & oilfield operations.
A heartfelt thank-you to Charlvon Limited for the warm hospitality and the valuable knowledge shared by their on-site professionals. Experiences like this are exactly what IADC Student Chapters are all about...bridging the gap between the classroom and the rig floor👏
