Congratulations to Patricia I. Cabrera and the East End Communities team for a successful Magnolia Park Dia de los Mu***os!

This celebration holds such importance for us at Barrio Dogs. Magnolia Park is where Houston began, and where so many community stories started. It's truly meaningful to honor those legacies—both our incredible community members and our cherished pets through our annual pet altar.

Though we missed being there this year, we look back fondly on our years of involvement as fiscal agent, committee member, and vendor. Thank you for keeping this beautiful tradition alive! See you in 2026 for the 13th year! 🎉

This weekend, we honor Día de los Mu***os—a celebration of memory, love, and connection. Altars (ofrendas) are built with care, filled with marigolds, candles, food, and photos to welcome the spirits of those we've lost.
Let’s celebrate life by remembering those who shaped ours.

Celebrating our community, honoring our culture.

Magnolia Park Dia de los Mu***os was established in 2013 as a block party organized by residents, community advocates and nonprofit leaders in the historic Latino neighborhood of Magnolia Park, located in Houston, Texas. Since its inception, the celebration has evolved and thrived, as neighbors realized the need for a space where they can strengthen relationships with each other and honor their unique and rich culture.

Laid out in 1890, Magnolia Park has over a century of rich history, and has contributed several historical milestones to the city of Houston. It was annexed to Houston in October of 1926, by which time Mexican residents made up the majority of neighborhood population. By 1929, it was the largest Mexican community in Houston, and made projects like the widening the Ship Channel and turning basin possible. During the Civil Rights Movement, the Magnolia Park YWCA hosted the Conferencia de Mujeres por la Raza and the offices of Papel Chicano were located in the community, and the area was a hub of industrial innovations in the city.
